Updated Reply for a Long-Term Missing Dog "I am so incredibly sorry you are going through this. Since Charlie has been missing for a week now, his survival instincts will be fully dialed in. He is likely hiding during the day to nurse his injuries and moving quietly at night. Because it has been a week, the strategy shifts toward expanding your reach and listening for sightings: • Expand the Neon Sign Radius: Since it's been a week, he may have traveled beyond Love Lane and Westland St. Put up giant, neon-colored poster board signs at major intersections up to a mile or two out. Make sure they say 'LOST DOG - DO NOT CHASE' with your phone number. Passersby need to see it instantly. • Set Up a Scent Station (Water Only): If you can safely leave a scent station near where he was last seen, place a piece of your unwashed clothing or his bed there. Leave a bowl of fresh water, but do not leave food. Food will attract raccoons, coyotes, or loose dogs, which will terrify Charlie and drive him away from the area. • Do Not Chase or Call If Spotted: Remind everyone that if they see him, they must not shout his name, approach, or corner him. After a week in survival mode, even a friendly dog will flee from familiar voices. Tell people to note the direction he is walking and call you immediately. • Check In with Shelters Daily: Don't just rely on online reports. Physically visit or call Hartford Animal Control and surrounding town shelters regularly, as well as local emergency vets, just in case he was brought in anonymously. • Watch Out for Scammers: Be hyper-vigilant about people commenting or texting claiming they have him but refusing to send a photo or demanding money/codes.

Asked online AI for tips: "I am so incredibly sorry you are going through this. Because Charlie was attacked and is likely hurt, his instinct will be to hide in a tight, dark, quiet spot close to where he ran off (near Love Lane/Westland St) to protect himself. He will be in survival mode, which means he might even run from familiar voices right now. Here is the best tactical advice to bring him home safely: • Do Not Chase or Call Out: If anyone spots him, do not pursue him, corner him, or yell his name. This will trigger his adrenaline and make him bolt further. Instead, sit or lay down, look away, gently crinkle a food wrapper, and let him realize it is safe. • Establish a Scent Station with Water Only: Place a piece of your unwashed clothing or his favorite bed right near the area he disappeared from to act as a homing beacon. Leave a bowl of fresh water, but do not leave a bowl of food. Food will attract raccoons, stray cats, or other neighborhood dogs, which will scare Charlie away from the area completely. • Targeted Physical Signs: Put up bright, neon-colored poster board signs at the major intersections around Westland St and Love Lane. Drivers don't always see phone screens, but giant neon signs with 'LOST DOG - DO NOT CHASE' and your phone number catch everyone's eye. • Notify Hartford Animal Control & Local Vets: Since he has injuries, someone may find him and take him straight to an emergency clinic or shelter. Ensure Hartford Animal Control and nearby emergency vets have his picture. • Beware of Scammers: Just a reminder to ignore anyone commenting or texting claiming they have him but demanding money or verification codes first.
