Kazi Towsif Azim She is a beautiful cat! Here are some researched suggestions for finding a lost indoor cat. Indoor Cats: The most important first thing to do is make a thorough search of the area. Inside only cats rarely go far. They go into survival mode and hide in silence. Most of them will not respond when they are in survival mode. According to research, the best time to search is early in the morning (3-5 am) or late at night. This quiet time is when they become active. They often will not come out during the day when they escape. They will be hiding in fear. Sit and quietly call for your kitty. Your voice only. Try to stay low. Standing is intimidating to cats. Have treats ready. They may not come when you call them. Don’t be discouraged. Look every day. Place some dirty socks, clothing, and pillow cases etc. with your scent on them outside, near where they exited. YOUR scent will attract your kitty. If you have a garage, place the items near the garage door and crack the door enough for them to get in. Refresh the items every day to keep the smell strong. DO NOT leave the litter box or food outside!! It can attract predators and aggressive animals that could scare your cat further away. Animals are territorial. Tomcats will be attracted to the waste in a litter box. That’s why cats cover up their waste to avoid predators and aggressive cats. Don't give up, it can take time to find a missing indoor only cat. Do a general search during the day, but return with a strong flashlight as late at night as you can. Try to look for the glow of their eyes. Look in trees, under cars, decks, and in bushes. Two recent pet owners found their cat in a drainage ditch! The best chance of you being reunited with your cat is to do a search of the area. Most indoor only cats will be within 160 feet of your home. Survival mode lasts 5 to 14 days but can last longer. Once their hunger gets to a maximum they snap out of it, and come out of hiding. The majority of cats will try to make a break for home on the 5th night. Ask your neighbors if YOU can go in their backyard and look around or check in their shed, garage, etc. Look around the air conditioners, drainage ditches, bushes, trees? and under cars and decks. Asking others to look for you doesn’t always work. People don’t follow through. They may not be able to bend down and look under decks, etc. It's VERY important that you look as late at night or early in the morning as you can. One successful pet owner asked their neighbors if they could search at night in their backyard. They also informed the police that they would be looking in the area. They found their cat! If you have other animals, watch them. If they are spending a lot of time looking out a certain window, that’s a good indication the missing cat is in that area. Wildlife and motion activated cameras are also helpful. Ask neighbors to check their Ring camera. Many people are successful trapping their indoor only cats. Some rescue organizations will rent or let you borrow humane traps . If you decide to trap, you must watch the trap very closely. The food in the trap could attract other animals. It can be very successful, you just need to keep an eye on the trap. There are some good YouTube videos of how to trap your cat . Make mini flyers with a photo and contact information . Hand them out to your neighbors and anyone in the area that will listen. There are some people who don’t go on social media, or don't pay attention to posted flyers. Post a large sign in your yard ,or in a common area. Make it the size of a Political or Realty sign. LOST CAT LIVES HERE ! HELP! Include a photo and contact information. Bicycle riders, runners, walkers, delivery people etc. will see the poster. Contact local shelters, Humane Society, pet care businesses, and groomers. Some people don’t go on social media. Get on every pet loss group that you can. Ask your mail carrier, neighborhood workers, and delivery people to be on the lookout. I hope your cat is home soon. Stay strong. 😻

The best time to look for a cat is late at night after the daytime sounds settle down. Go for a walk and take a flashlite scan into the trees and under bushes. A cat can fit in any hole that they can fit their head thru they have collapsible shoulder blades. Most indoor cats stay close to home but come out at night. Most important is to make your presence known. Go out every half hour after 9pm and call for them and stop and listen it's amazing what you can hear late at night. Get your voice and scent out there. They are looking for you also. Look for glowing eyes at night. If there is a dog sibling that the cat likes take the dog on the walk. If you open canned cat food or shake treats do so on your walk. If the cat has a noisy toy shake it on your walk. Make posters and put in every business within a mile of the home. Let your mail carrier know. If there are teenagers in the neighborhood let them know they love reward money and being a hero. Check all local shelters. Let local veterinarians know your info. If there is a feral colony near you check it out. If you can find the feeder of the colony give them your info. Make large signs and put in neighbors yards at least a mile radius of the home. This ensures that everyone in the area has the info. Put post it notes on your neighbors doors to look in sheds and garages. Post on every Facebook forum in your area. Post on Pawboost and For the love of Louie. Check Humane Society. So important to make your presence known every half hour after 9pm. Make a bed out of the cats carrier and put soiled clothes from inside the home around the bed. Put it as close to the house as you can. Leave a shed or garage open check them often. Camp in your yard. Most indoor cats are found late at night. Don't give up. Do not put food out or litter it attracts every animal in the area including raccoon opossum feral cats and coyotes. Your cat will know that there is food inside and that is incentive to keep them close to the house. If you are outside that's OK but take it in when you go back in. If your cat sees a predator eating their food it might make them retreat further. Most important is to let them know you are looking for them. Hope you find your baby
