Ways Someone Can Prove Ownership If They Say You Found Their Pet * Vet records or adoption papers * Papers from a breeder * Family Photos- If they only show photos of the pet you found by itself, look closely to be sure they are not using the photo you posted and AI to falsify an image of the pet in someone’s home * Ask them for a photo of themselves with the pet. * Ask for their photo ID with their name and address before giving them the pet.

Thank you for helping this pup. Any vet can check for a chip and most are open till noon today. Here are two other ways to get it done. Send an email to info@wecareforpets.org to reach Care for Pets as they have volunteers who can come to your house and scan a pet to see if there is a chip and try to get the owner’s information from the chip company. Any vet can scan for a chip, but they are not always open. The Animal Emergency Clinic, 7145 Spring Creek, is open 24/7 can scan for a chip. They are located across Perryville and just down from Franchesco’s. 815-229-7791. Please call before heading over there as they might be busy with emergencies and not able to do a scan right away.
