Message from Owner

Chloe is my best friend and has been an important member of my family for almost 10 years. She’s a very smart kitty and I have hope that she’s still out there waiting to be found! She is microchipped but very wary of strangers and will run if approached.

My indoor only male black cat got out once. We put out all the scents. Old blankets, our unwashed clothes, his scratch post, his empty dirty litter box, vacuum dust etc. My nextdoor neighbor would see him trying to return during the day while we were at work. Then get scared and run off into nearby woods. I started setting my alarm for 3am while it was quiet and go out calling him. Finally after 5 days I heard him crying in very thick bushes Nextdoor to our house. I saw his eyes with my flashlight. I had to literally crawl to get him. He was like afraid to move. I finally got him . They usually don’t travel far. They will hunker down close by.

Caring for a kidney cat is an emotional roller coaster. Louie went from having a routine teeth cleaning in February and kidney levels showing early signs of kidney disease to him in March/April losing weight, lethargic and throwing up. My 13 year old big boy went from 13.5lbs to barely 8lbs in a few short months. We had his levels ran in April and were told he had enf stage 4 kidney disease, and were sent home with Sub Q fluids, anti nausea , appetite stimulator cream, and ran a course of antibiotics for a UTI and told he wouldnt make it likely another few months. He did well, then crashed. We brought him in for a check up 2 weeks ago and was told he really should be hospitalized for severe dehydration and severe anemia. He went into the ER at the animal hospital for 2 days (hence the shaved legs) and they got his creatinine down but it plataued around 6.5. He was eating again, so happy to see us and super affectionate. Well 2 weeks later another crash. Won't eat, throwing up constantly for a few days, wont hold down and the subq fluids dont even make a bubble because hes so dehydrated and just stares into nothing. Broke down last night sobbing in my car thinking that its best to start preparing to make the call to put him down in the next few days, but today he's back to wandering and eating, and begging for treats. He greeted me at the door today and was using his scratch pad. He fights me hard when I have to burrito him to give him his Kidney Gold + Varenzin but they are helping him, when he keeps it down. He still is so fiesty and strong after all this. My heart is a mess of "this is it, he is suffering and time to make that call" to "oh! He's eating?! And walking around and purring?! Maybe he is bouncing back a little!" To "is this the surge?! Is the next crash going to be 'it'?" 😪😭💓

Lost Cats‼️ Indoor only cats and limited outdoor access cats never go far. They go into survival mode and hide in silence. Most of them will not respond when they are in survival mode. 3 AM is the best time to find a missing indoor only cat. This is the time they become most active and responsive. Sit and quietly call for your kitty. Try to stay low, standing is intimidating to cats. Place some dirty socks and pillow cases outside. Your scent will attract your kitty. If you have a garage, place the items near the garage door and crack the door enough for her to get in. DO NOT leave food or litter box outside, it can attract predators and aggressive Tom cats. Because indoor only cats hide so well they are not as likely to be ed by a predator. Don't give up, it can take months to find a missing indoor only cat. Use a flashlight as late at night as you can to look in trees, under cars and in bushes. Try to look for the glow of her eyes. The best chance of you being reunited with your cat is to do a methodical search of the area. Most indoor only cats will be within 160 feet of your home. Survival mode lasts 5 to 14 days but can last longer. Once their hunger gets to a maximum they can snap out of it but this is a dangerous time because they come out of hiding. The majority of cats will try to make a break for home on the 5th night. In addition to posted flyers, make mini flyers and hand them out to your neighbors. Some people don't pay attention to posted flyers. It's VERY VERY important that you look for her as late at night as you can. If you have other cats, watch them. If they are spending a lot of time looking out a certain window, that’s a good indication the missing cat is in that area. Wildlife and motion activated cameras are also helpful. a lot of people are successful trapping their indoor only cats. If you decide to trap, you must watch the trap closely, predators can a cat in a trap.
