Old Man's Owner/Finder Says

Thank you to everyone who kept their eyes out for Old Man. He was found yesterday by a lovely pair of sisters and reunited with me today after traveling 11 miles from home in two weeks.

Put out a scent station and file a lost with HSPPR. Check area storm drains for meowing. They will go in for safety and warmth then usually cannot get out.

Cats are territorial and will stay close to home the whole time they are missing. Call to Old Man consistently. He hears you. Is hiding from predators. May not initially answer out of fear. Keep calling every day and listen hard for a response. Old Man is going to try to return home. Crack open your garage door or regular door just enough for him to get thru. Place his bedding inside the door with your slept on pillowcase in the bedding and a low setting heating pad underneath. Place some water and just a little bit of food deep inside the garage. Please no food or litter box outside as it will attract other cats and predators deterring Old Man’s effort to return and places him in grave danger. Place your unlaundered clothing along the road, up your driveway to the cracked open door. Don’t give up on this!! Someone whose cat was missing for a MONTH, his cat mom followed this advice. While setting up the garage her cat walked inside!! Friends, neighbors, folks on lost/found sites have taken this advice with good results. One couple shared their cat came into their bedroom in the middle of the night. Reach out to your neighbors. They are key in helping you find Old Man. Distribute flyers with contact info and an image asking them to consistently check their properties and structures. Many cats are found under decks and in garages. Go out with a flashlight at dusk after dark and look hard for him. My friends did this after looking and calling to their kitty all day. They found him hiding under the neighbor’s deck. Let the Humane Society know Old Man is missing in case he is turned into them. Going there every few days and check in person. It improves your odds of finding him. Also, go to their website daily and check the images posted of lost pets who are there. Pets.hsppr.gov. If adopted from a rescue contact them right away to help you find Old Man. They are good at what they do. Don’t hesitate to reach out. Look up!! He may have been spooked up a tree by a neighbor dog. Sharing with prayers for a quick safe return. The odds are with you. Again, not giving up and looking aggressively will result in Old Man’s return home. ❤️🐾🙏

General Information: Usually indoor cats are close to home. Check possible hiding places in your home. Hang clothes with your scent on it high up outside so the familiar scent can travel and guide the cat back home. Ask your neighbors to check their yard/could be accidently stuck in their garage or shed. (If applicable) RING camera - check camera or ask neighbors to check their camera. Post Fliers with a picture of the cat and your contact information in the area the cat went missing. Not everyone is on Social Media and posters have worked in that if spotted a location can be provided. If a cat is scared they make themselves safe by finding a good hiding spot. Look in bushes - bring a flashlight and look for shining eyes. Best time to find your cat is in the early morning hours when the noise level is low and they feel safe. Leave an access point open for the cat to return. This is important if they do come back in the middle of the night. Prayers your cat returns/ or is found safely.
