MESSAGE FROM OWNER

We’re so worried about Amelia. She’s a sweet girl, just very shy. Please help us bring her asap!

DESCRIPTION

She is a two year old orange tabby cat. Short fur. She is very skittish and fast. Hard to catch. She was a feral cat before she was brought to the shelter we adopted her from. We’re not sure how long she was feral, so we don’t know how much she prefers the outdoors to indoors. She could be far away. We are very worried!

Place a humane trap (buy at home depot, or rent from Humane Animal Rescue in the North Side or from someone on fb)) on porch or in yard if no porch, or near any sightings. Put a piece of your unwashed laundry & smelly food inside. You need to check the trap frequently, even overnight, especially in hot or cold weather. (Unless you have a camera in the trap or some other way to monitor it. Animals can injure themselves trying to get out of cages, & are also very vulnerable to predators). Also you can put cardboard over the wire bottom (but not on the trip plate).Tell your neighbors he is lost & to keep an eye out for him & not to chase if he's skittish. Post on Pawboost & put up laminated flyers. Search everywhere, under porches, in sheds, in bushes, near home for him. Look especially at night when his eyes shine. Also check your porch very early in the morning. I've heard many stories of people finding their cat sitting on the porch in the wee morning hours. And leave a door or window open (preferably door) if you can. Many cats have just walked back into their house. Call all shelters & Animal Control. Visit animal shelters in person every few days. Shelter workers often mistakenly do not realize the pet is there. I cannot stress enough how important getting & using a humane trap is. Please do not listen to well-meaning people who say they do not work. Shared & Prayers. http://www.3retrievers.com/humane-trap-guidelines.html
