These tips worked for me. Read to the end🙏🏻 Recovery Tips — Do These Immediately: Post date missing and location, including cross streets. Cats usually stay very close by — often just a few houses away. Acting quickly and consistently can significantly increase your likelihood of finding your cat before they wander further away. Tear your house apart first — if you didn’t see the escape, thoroughly search inside. Check sofas, chairs, drawers, closets, basements, attics, and any tight spaces where cats can squeeze in and hide. Get flyers up ASAP — this is the #1 way lost pets are found and brought home. Post them on poles, in local businesses, and hand them directly to neighbors. Place dirty laundry (with your scent) and smelly food near your home to lure them back. Set up WiFi cameras (Blink, Wyze, Ring, etc.) with food in front if you don’t already have cameras — many cats return when no one is watching. Check common hiding spots — sewer drains, under decks, sheds, garages, cars, and bushes. Use a flashlight during both day and night searches to look for eyes shining back at you. Leave the escape route ajar (door or window) — only if you have no other pets that could slip out, and only if you feel safe. You can also leave the garage door open slightly with food leading inside. Use sardines, mackerel, or other strong-smelling cat food to make a trail home. You can even mix them in warm water in a jug to create “chum” and spread it around your yard or driveway. Report your cat missing immediately to 24PetConnect and/or your local animal shelter, and if possible, check in person daily. Many cats look similar, and phone descriptions are not always reliable. On 24PetConnect, please choose a 50-mile radius for best results. Call your cat’s microchip company right away to report them missing and confirm your contact info is up to date. This ensures you’ll be notified if your cat is scanned. Post online alerts: File a free alert with PawBoost. Share on Lost & Found Pet pages, neighborhood apps (like Nextdoor), and local community Facebook groups. If your cat went missing somewhere other than home — stay nearby at the point of loss with food and your dirty laundry to help them find their way back. Search all day and night. Know that between 8PM – 6AM is when cats are most likely to come out of hiding, especially if it’s quiet. Stay calm — NEVER yell, chase, or make loud noises. Sit low, speak calmly, and use a non-threatening presence to increase the chance your cat will approach. Talk to your neighbors right away — ask them to check garages, sheds, crawlspaces, and under decks. Cats often slip inside unnoticed. Beware of scammers — block anyone asking for codes or money unless they send a clear picture of your cat as proof. Seriously consider a professional tracker or thermal drone company that specializes in recovery. Check with a local shelter or rescue for a reputable source. Don’t lose hope. A kitty was brought home after 32 days… 32 days of feeding stations, trail cams for sightings, thermal drone searches, traps set by trackers, daily FB posts and bright flyers posted for miles!
