I hope your neighbour is reunited with her cat 🐈 Possum soon. Please can you help her with the following? - Contact your local council's Ranger Services or pound ASAP & inform them that your cat 🐈 is lost & give them your contact phone no., your cat’s description, age, breed & give them photo(s) (preferably recent) of your cat 🐈‍⬛ 📸 so that they can keep a lookout for him/her. ***Important*** Ask the ranger how many days their pound holds cats for, as it could be as little as ONLY THREE DAYS (if your cat isn’t microchipped) before they can adopt your cat to another person (if they’re unable to contact you successfully). - Check other pounds outside of your local area too. - It's better to phone or visit the pound regularly in person too to check if your cat is impounded there. - Don’t just rely on checking their website, as they mightn’t include details of all of the cats impounded with them on there. You may need to book an appointment with them first if visiting them. - If your cat 🐱 is microchipped, it’s very important to check that your contact details are up to date 📅 on your cat’s microchip. You can do this on the ‘Pet Address’ website. Please see the below link: https://www.petaddress.com.au/ You can update your cat’s 🐱microchip details via the microchip company or at a vet clinic. You can even flag your cat’s status on their microchip as lost or missing. - Phone or visit the Cat Haven & ask if your cat is there. If not, give them your contact phone ☎️ number, your cat’s description, age, any distinguishing marks, breed & photos of your cat. 🐈‍⬛ - Contact all local vet clinics & vet hospitals. 🏥 - It’s essential that you thoroughly & actively search for your lost cat. If you do this, it really increases your odds of finding your lost cat. 🐱 - Go walking on your street & nearby streets; preferably at night & early morning - preferably between 2:00AM to 4:00AM to search 👀 for your kitty as those are the best times to search for a lost cat. 🐱 Take someone with you for safety & torches. 🔦 Try to see if you can see your cat’s eyes 👀 shine in the light. Take a hot cooked chicken with you & (deboned & preferably barbecued) or sardines 🐟 (if your cat likes them) with you. Take their favourite cat biscuits as well. - Call out their name when searching & try to listen out for their meows. They may not always meow if they’ve been injured or are scared. - Look under parked vehicles, 🚗 under bushes, search in nearby bushland, parks, reserves, ovals, vacant lots, car parks, outside shops or businesses etc. • It is not a good idea to place your cat's litter tray outside because whilst it might seem like a good idea to use their scent to attract them back, it can actually do more harm than good by attracting other animals and potentially making your cat 🐱 feel unsafe. Instead, try to focus on using familiar, comforting items with your cat's scent, e.g. their unwashed bedding or your unwashed clothes to help them try to find their way home. Place the unwashed items outside, e.g. on your washing line & one or more out the front of your home. - Regularly leave out food & fresh water in a safe & sheltered spot. - Keep in mind that other animals 🐕 might eat the food. - If possible, create a sheltered space where your cat 🐈 can feel secure & safe. - During the day, speak 🗣️ to as many of your neighbours as possible in person & ask if you can search with them for your lost cat 🐱 in their backyards, sheds, garages, under decks & check up on their roof or in a roof space etc. Your cat might have jumped into their backyard & be unable to get out without help. - Give your neighbours flyers with your cat’s description, recent photo(s) & your contact details. - Ask your neighbours to keep a look out for him or her. - Keep a record of which neighbours’ houses you’ve visited & if you’ve spoken to them about your lost cat. - Ask your neighbours if they are able to check their CCTV 🎥 footage (if they have that) for your lost cat.🐈 - During daylight hours, search for your cat in your street & nearby ones. Also check in storm water drains to see if your cat 🐈 is there. Is Possum microchipped and desexed? Please advise as it impacts some time sensitive advice I can share if not. Please consider a humane cat trap asap 😻 Door knock at least up to 10 houses away to ask your neighbours if they’ve seen them and to check their sheds, garages, roof spaces, caravans, trailers etc. Make up flyers for a letter box drop, put up posters. Leave out your unwashed clothing, their bedding and some smelly food to help attract them home. Also call at night and walk your neighbourhood (with someone so you’re safe) and call them while banging / rattling their food - also take some smelly food to attract them as well as a torch to help better see their eyes in the dark 😻 Call all local vets within 5km and all surrounding emergency vets within 20kms, the rangers / pounds and the Cat Haven as well as RSPCA. Ask the vets as well as the rangers where their cats are sent if not claimed and ask after how many days they’re sent there. Keep checking their websites too 🤞 Flag their microchip as missing with the relevant microchip registry company. If you know their chip number, but not the registry it’s linked to (there are a few), use their chip number to find out at Pet Address. Please also check if their microchip is with HomesafeID. As they’ve now gone offline, please make sure you re-register their chip with another registry asap if they’re with them so your contact details can be accessed by vets, rangers etc. If it’s safe to do so for you and other pets, can they get back in the way they got out? It’s important to leave your unwashed clothing in the front and back yards to help them work out which house is their home 🤞 Have you shared to Pets of Perth - Lost & Found?
