Hang big signs everywhere even on your mailbox. Ask neighbors to check their ring cameras. Contact the microchip company and report lost also contact your vet and let them know too. Contact local rescues and shelters in person pictures can look different online. Contact local businesses, schools, vet offices, police and fire stations, pet stores, groomers, churches. Set up a scent trail using your dirty laundry outside. Prayers you find your baby ♥️

Deborah Ross This is such detailed and thoughtful advice. You can tell you’ve either helped find a lost kitty before or really taken the time to learn what works. The idea about creating a little scent-safe haven outside with a chair and blanket is especially comforting. Deborah, have you personally had success using these methods before?

Linda Zickella That’s actually such a great idea. Putting the litter box out can really help them pick up on their own scent and find their way back. It’s amazing how strong their sense of smell is. Linda, have you seen that work before with a lost indoor cat?

Janet W Fincannon This is such thoughtful advice. The unwashed clothes tip is especially powerful, scent really is their compass. I’ve also heard that sitting quietly nearby and speaking in a normal, calm voice instead of calling loudly can sometimes help a scared indoor cat feel safer coming out. You clearly know your way around cats. I hope Phoenix finds his way home soon. Janet, do you think stress or unfamiliar sounds are usually the biggest trigger for that kind of hiding?

Lee Jay Those are actually really thoughtful suggestions. Indoor cats can hide in the most unexpected places when they’re scared or overwhelmed. It’s clear you’ve either experienced this before or really understand feline behavior. Lee, have you ever had a cat disappear inside the house like that before?

Put the litter box outside. (Some don’t agree with this but it’s worked for me). Along with kittys blanket toys something of yours unwashed so kitty can pick up the scent. Tap cans and shake treats when calling. Call for kitty early morning and evening when not so busy out. Check trees bushes woods waterways and culverts. Culverts are great hiding places. Put big currogated signs up everywhere 12x18 with description and phone number. Check with all your neighbors. Post on Nextdoor and ring and pawboost. Try smelly food. Cats generally stay close to home along perimeters and can smell up to a mile away. You can also put a chair outside with a blanket with scent (like a tent) to give safe haven in case you aren’t around or don’t see her come back Lost cat info (I saved and copy this due to the amount of lost cats)
