I just want to share this with you. My cat Snoopy got out on a Friday night and I immediately set a trap. On Sunday, I bought a second trap. I checked the two traps after 6 am Monday morning. No luck. Monday night for the first time, I left the garage door open slightly enough for my cat Snoopy to get in and I left the cellar door open. I left the lights off in the garage and cellar, except for a light in a separate room. I put 2 blankets by the garage door entrance that Snoopy slept on. I kept all my other cats upstairs. After checking the traps with no luck, I went downstairs and I heard something and then found Snoopy in the cellar. My other cats went down to greet him. I am so grateful that Snoopy is home.

Find out who your local animal shelters and rescues are. I would call them and also check them in person too

Buy, rent or borrow a humane trap and set it up asap. It must be monitored, kept in the shade and covered on top because of the weather. Tractor supply, Lowes, Home Depot, and Amazon sell them. Certain animal shelters will rent them out. Keep in mind you may catch a raccoon and you need to know how to release it safely

Very important! If your cat/dog is microchipped PLEASE double check to make sure the microchip is REGISTERED and up to date with your current information and telephone number incase someone finds your cat/dog and takes it somewhere to get scanned so that they can call you. You should have the chip number in your paperwork from who IMPLANTED the chip in. You will need the BRAND of chip to be able to call them and check to see if it is REGISTERED and up to date. If you only have the number and Not the BRAND of chip you can enter it for free on this national website. When you enter the chip number in it will ONLY tell you the BRAND of chip so that you can call them and check to see if it is REGISTERED and up to date with your current information and telephone number. https://www.aaha.org/for-veterinary-professionals/microchip-search/

Put something with your cat's scent on it outside on the porch such as a blanket, clothes, toys etc. Sprinkle cat nip on it too if you have any

Go knocking door to door asking your neighbors within a 2-3 block radius. Hand them a flyer with a photo of your cat/dog and a telephone number to be reached at. Hang up flyers outside and protect them with a plastic sleeve from the weather.

Indoor only fixed cats will be close by hunkered down in fear. Look in bushes, under porches and decks, small spaces and sheds. If you look in the dark with a bright flashlight cat's eyes will glow when the light hits them. Wear reflective and bright clothing so cars can see you in the dark.

Tips for finding your cat. This is how I recently helped my friend find her lost cat. You MUST go out & search for him. Please try doing these things, ESPECIALLY walking around in late evening and/or early morning and calmly calling him, then stopping periodically to listen for his reply/meow. Cover the same area over and over, EVERY day. (I've read they rarely travel more than 500 feet from home.) Go out at dusk & walk around & calmly call him. Cats can become fearful outdoors, even of their owners. If he gets treats, take a box & shake it gently. IMPORTANT--- Walk, call, then listen to see if you hear him meow. Take a flashlight & shine it under every nearby car, bush, etc. looking for eyes reflecting. Put blankets or clothing with your scent on your porch or patio. Ask neighbors to make sure he didn't get shut inside a shed, garage, etc. Put posters w/ his photo & your number at every nearby stop sign & red-light & give 1 to your mail carrier. Give his photo & your number to any regular walkers or joggers. This is how my friend's cat was found, a jogger saw him. If none of this works see if someone can loan you a small humane trap & set it up w/ food & check it often. Praying he makes it back home soon! 🙏 This takes some time, effort & a little money but it's totally worth it. ❤️
