Thanks for bringing inside to safety, food and water. Can you take it to a vet to scan for chip? The vet may also recognize the kitty and be able to contact its owners. Check with other local vets as well and contact the police. Also post fliers. Also your mail carrier may recognize them. And beware of bad actors!!! Also keep checking Nextdoor and Pawboost for cats found in and near your zip code.

Check for microchip. Also see if flyers are posted in the area he/she was found. Search on Pawboost and Lostmykitty to try to find the owner, and post on those sites also that you found this companion animal. Pawboost has a high rate of success in reuniting companion animal family members. Be sure to get legitimate proof of ownership if someone claims the cat; if any doubts, don't surrender the cat.
