Don't ever try to figure out why people do what they do after they've done it -- especially when they're with a government agency! It makes no sense and never will! Not many people want to adopt 12 year old dogs. I'd say you have a pretty good chance of getting that little girl in Ft. Pierce if you play you cards right with the person at the rescue. I'd probably try my best not to let them know that you think the Broward Co. Animal Shelter is incompetent. Mostly just let them know what a great mom you are now and will be to this little rescued girl! They should be thrilled to have someone like you want her!

Thank you, Maryann, for your kind words and your empathy. I already looked this shelter up, they open only Tuesdays and Thursdays. It is just hard for me to understand how the shelter gives up a living person that was right there, offering love and care, and chooses to give that baby girl to another shelter instead. She could have been here right now. I live in Dania Beach, and have a huge fenced yard, where my 2 baby boys roam and play whenever they want to.

I'm so sorry Lily. It does seem a good new mom could take care of those kind of "issues" for a dog as well if not better than a rescue. Can you call Ft. Pierce Rescue and let them know you'd like to be first in line to adopt her as soon as they have her "stable"? Maybe if you let them know you went to adopt her when she was here, they'd give you special consideration. I know how hard it is to find a small dog to adopt. As far as Chloe is concerned, I'm waiting until she's not in heat and is spayed before she is adopted. I have to tell you there are a number of folks in the area who are really interested in her. I will put you on the list. If you haven't found another little girl before Chloe's ready for adoption, I'd be glad to consider you as a future mom. You sound very caring! In the meantime, good luck in your search for that special little girl!

I called over 13 times today before someone answered in customer service. They informed me that the dog was given to Rescue Adoption of Ft. Pierce TODAY.... And I cannot understand why they would not give her to me yesterday, even though I wanted her just like that, would take care of her medical bills. When I inquired as to the type of medical 'issues' she had... I was told that she was underweight, weak and that her coat was unkempt... all of this a natural state of things for a pet that was a stray.
