Tara Hebert, our daughter, very responsibly did everything she could to help this dog. And honestly, I’m glad you screenshotted everything. Truly. Thank you for preserving the evidence that we were very obviously not just casually “rehoming” someone’s dog because somebody checked the wrong little box on a post. For those joining the investigation from the Facebook Detective Division: this dog was found around 5:00 a.m. in a park on a rainy day. Her hair was dirty and matted, and she definitely wasn’t looking nearly as glamorous as she does in the photos. It almost seemed she was neglected and as the owners haven't found us after posting on numerous sites, notifying the shelter, and putting up posters everywhere, then it's seems like they're not really looking for the dog. The dog is not chipped, which is also something a responsible owner would do. We walked her through the surrounding neighborhoods hoping it might recognize where it lived and lead us to it's home. We made and posted flyers. We took her to be scanned for a microchip at the soonest opportunity we had. We left our contact information so that if someone went looking for their missing dog, they could reach us. In other words, actual effort was made to find her owner. Though it doesn't seem it's owner has made an effort to find it. Now, apparently we didn’t have every subsection of California stray-dog law memorized before sunrise, so rather than continue listening to Facebook’s volunteer legal department debate the issue, I surrendered her to the animal shelter today. The shelter can now handle all the legal requirements and determine what happens next. Whether she is reunited with her owner, eventually adopted, transferred, or whatever else their legal procedure requires is now in their hands. So, to everyone who was deeply concerned from the safety of their keyboard: she’s at the shelter now. If her wellbeing means as much to you as your comments suggested, you’re welcome to get off Facebook and go help the dog in person.

Sadie Kerber there is no way to know someone’s age on Facebook. As a parent you should have taken the initiative to post and take the lead then . Adults are better equipped to handle found dogs as well as post . Let me tell you why the post disturbed me- it says rehomed . Families have a legal right to reclaim their pet . By law the dog must be reported as found to the shelter. Families are heartbroken when they lose the opportunity to reclaim so are the pets . So I do apologize if the poster has challenges but this social medium and the nature of the situation really calls for a adult to have posted

Sadie Kerber your post says rehomed right on top ! I screenshot all this . It’s been days as well any vet or petco can scan for free . Shelter report should have been filed by law it must be
