If pet is chipped, contact the chip company and make sure your info is current and correct. Mistakes are often made. The effectiveness of signs posted quickly all around the area can not be overstated.

This also works for in/out kitties- Since he/she's an indoor kitty, he/she's likely very nearby, within a 7 house radius, hiding in fear. One of the most effective tips I see posted is- Take treats and a flashlight out when it's dawn/dusk/ night. Walk slowly, shine light under bushes and other areas, like decks and crawl spaces, and up into trees. Pause, shake treats, calmly call his/her name. Listen for rustling sounds or replies. Take a few more steps, repeat. OnlY do this within your own yard, so you don't accidentally encourage your cat to leave the immediate area. Many cats will not reply even to owners when lost. Important to keep ur voice calm and gentle, even though ur stressed and panicked. Post on NextDoor. Notify mail carrier that ur looking for him/her. Notify neighbors so they know he/she's not a stray if they see him/her. Look at neighbors doorbell cams for sightings. ****Indoor cats will often try to get back inside, but can't find a way in.**** If safe, leave a door or window cracked, with smelly cat food and/or your worn clothing nearby. If not safe to leave door open, make sure u still leave water out for him/her. Food, too, if u can keep an eye on it to make sure dominant strays don't get to it and consequently keep him/her away. Have a safe, warm box shelter box nearby.

When in/out cats don't come home, it's usually because they've gotten stuck or closed up into something unexpectedly. Check under/inside decks, crawl spaces, sheds, garages, any other structures with doors. Ask neighbors to check, or let u check, those areas on their property. Signs with photo posted quickly all around the area can help a lot. Post on NextDoor, and on all surrounding lost pet sites. Critical to keep searching. Many cat owners stop their search way too soon. Creating a "safe zone" for him to reapproach home is essential if he was scared away, and could be stuck in fear state. Also, if he's closed up or stuck somewhere, he can't return until you locate that place, so calling for him isn't always successful. Kim Freeman Cat Detective has extensive details on this and other tips on her website. Hope he's home soon!

Call softly late night early morning when it quite out .. For indoor cat if there is any way you could leave your door garage door or window slightly ajar if possible they know where they got out .. cats will hide during the day and are more active late evening near dark to early morning , daybreak ... have a spot light to shine to see eyes in the dark .. they are usually close by and will often come back to the door .. or hide under bushes or decks to feel safe ! Also check crawl spaces under houses , garages, sheds of neighbors nearby ... check culvert pipes .. storm drains .. up trees .. and colder weather they will get under car hoods for warmth and on tires also ...this can happen and they could be miles from home . Cats in a new home need at least 30 days to adjust to a new area and may and will travel to get back to their old home .. A set trap may be needed and monitored! Trail cam help to monitor the areas! Post to Nextdoor Ask neighbors to check their Ring Doorbells... Beware of loose and roaming dogs in the area as they will chase and your cats! For automatic garage doors please place a 6x6 block or cinder block so that the door will not come all the way down and trap your pet as they can be injured! Check with area Shelters, Animal Control, and Vets offices also put flyers ... Am sure you have tried most all of these! Don't give up!!

1. Post on Next Door Also. Talk to neighbors 2. If microchipped call the company and be sure information is current. 3. Post flyers on neon colored poster paper and put in plastic zip lock bags. 4. Look under houses, porches, decks, grills, cars and bushes. 5. Look up in trees. Look in garages, sheds, drainpipes, driveway culverts and sewers. Leave garage door cracked open. 6. Go out at night but midnight -6 am is best when cats are most active . Take a strong flash light to reflect on cats eyes. 7. Set up outdoor camera to see if coming up about $35 Walmart 8. Set a have-a-heart cat trap. Borrow from a rescue or buy at a tractor supply. Bait with canned mackerel or sardines . - put a tarp or dark towel over the top part not the ends so cat can breathe. - sync a trail camera to the trap to watch activity from your cell. 9. Indoor cats are usually hiding or stuck within 3-7 houses or 50 yards unless they hitched a ride. Indoor-outdoor within 3-17 houses or 345 yards. 10. Put out worn clothing of cats favorite person. 11. Set out water so cat can survive. Check for freezing. 12. Check shelters every day or two in Person . - Wake County shelter and SPCA.
