🐾 Here are a few things to try if you've found a lost pet in Arizona. The NEIGHBORS by Ring app is amazing! 🎉 It has an impressive success rate, helping reunite about 70% of lost pets with their owners—often within hours. Ring and NEIGHBORS by Ring are two different apps, and you do NOT need a Ring device to use NEIGHBORS. It only takes about 5 minutes to download the app and create a post, making it one of the fastest and most effective ways to help reunite a lost pet with its family.🎉 To quickly reach many people within a three mile radius: ▪️ Post the found pet on NEIGHBORS by Ring. ▪️ Also post on Nextdoor ▪️ Make simple flyers using a piece of paper and a Sharpie. Packing tape works great for hanging them up. ▪️ Place 4–8 flyers at the major intersections closest to where the pet was found. ▪️ Put a box in your front yard and write FOUND DOG or FOUND CAT in big letters so if the owners are driving the neighborhood, hopefully they will see it.🥰 ▪️ Your flyers don't have to be fancy. Just write: FOUND DOG/CAT BREED SIZE COLOR YOUR PHONE NUMBER THAT'S IT! ▪️ Take the pet to any veterinary clinic and have them scanned for a microchip. A high % of Lost Pet cases are solved in their neighborhood!!! THAT'S WHERE THE SEARCH NEEDS TO BE! This is why the neighborhood apps work best. Post at least three times a day on both of them. Dogs: Many lost dogs are found within 1–2 miles of where they went missing, especially if they escaped from home. Depending on the dog's personality and circumstances, some stay within a few blocks while others travel much farther. Cats: Indoor cats that get outside are often found very close to home—frequently within a few houses to about 500 feet (150 m). Outdoor cats and more adventurous cats may roam farther, (usually within a block) but many are discovered hiding nearby. THIS WHY OWNERS SHOULD BE ON BOTH NEXT DOOR AS WELL AS THE NEIGHBORS BY RING APP POSTING THREE TIMES A DAY. AND PUTTING UP VERY SIMPLE FLYERS SO PEOPLE CAN READ THEM FROM 20 FT AWAY (a flyer doesn't work if nobody can read it): REWARD AMOUNT PHONE NUMBER ONE BIG CLEAR PICTURE OF THE PET. Don't even put lost dog on there. The reward is your attention grabbing headline. Get at least 40 Flyers up at the major intersections north south east and west of you. All four sides of the intersection. And at the exit points from your subdivision and the one across the street from you. Should take about an hour. Do more if you can but it's hot. The next day put another 40 up expanding your range by a mile.

Since most lost pet cases are solved in the neighborhood where the pet went missing, nearby neighbors matter more than a large Facebook group. This is why using the neighborhood apps Next door has close to a 75% return rate. Neighbors by Ring has close to a 69% return rate. Flyers are important as well. But the apps should be first because you get a post up in 5 minutes and reach 50 people. Flyers take time to put up. People often assume that posting about a missing pet in a large community Facebook group means 1000’s of people are actively searching. Not so. Imagine a city Facebook group with 24,000 members. The city is roughly 5–6 miles east to west and 5–6 miles north to south. The people who like animals are too spread out across the City to actually see your pet in real life. Also, when it is 115° degrees outside in Arizona, the chance that people will walk around outside to search on foot for a lost pet drops very close to zero. It's estimated that only about 5% of the immediate neighbors will actually look outside. And they will NOT walk the neighborhood, more like simply glance under their vehicle porch or bushes while walking from their air conditioned house to their air conditioned car. That's the reality during extreme heat. People just aren't going to walk sidewalks, check bushes, or conduct neighborhood searches when it's 115°F. So it's very important that owners post on the two apps and get Flyers up asap.
