Trease L Carpenter I have been in feral cat rescue for 40 years. Unless you live in an area with extreme coyote activity you'll be fine. Coyotes are opportunistic hunters, they don't lay and wait. I feed wild animals and have food out all the time. I've seen coyotes very few times even though I live in an area with coyotes, but they are not prevalent. If food doesn't attract them a litter box won't. The coyote/litter box paradigm is exaggerated as is most negative views on wildlife.

Heather Davis it's not recommended to leave a litterbox out. It attracts wild animals like coyotes and other cats might use it especially tom cats wanting to mark their territory.
