LOST Dogs at the Pound Please don’t rely on the website — HSPPR has a long, documented history of dogs being in the building but never appearing online. This is how people lose their pets there. Here’s what actually happens: • Dogs on stray hold often never get photographed or uploaded They sit in the back for days and never appear online. • Dogs who are scared, stressed, or shut down are moved to the back and hidden HSPPR labels them ā€œbehavioral,ā€ and those dogs are never posted online. • Dogs who fail the behavior test are kept out of public view This includes dogs who are simply frightened, confused, or overwhelmed. They are not listed. Families have lost dogs this way. • Mislabeling is extremely common Wrong breed, wrong , wrong color — and if your dog is mislabeled, you will never find them by searching the website. • Injured or sick dogs are kept in medical and not listed You won’t see them online, and staff won’t tell you over the phone. This is why you MUST go in person. Walk the stray hold kennels. Ask to see the dogs in the back. Ask about medical and quarantine. Ask about dogs who failed behavior. The website is not complete, and it never has been. Going in person is the only way to make sure your dog isn’t sitting there unlisted.

At the top of my page is a pinned post with tips on how to find or return a lost pet. This post includes helpful links to local Lost & Found pages and places to report missing or found pets. Once you post your LOST alert, take a moment to look through the FOUND posts — your pet may already be listed. Keep checking back regularly for updates. Here’s the link to the tips: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=3550007315054776&set=pb.100001366267424.-2207520000..&type=3 There's a video link on how to catch a loose and normally scared dog (e.g. calling their name – even by the owner - can send them running the other way if in survival mode, don't chase, etc.). https://youtu.be/cmiZzB643is There’s lots of information about creating a scent trails by WALKING and other ways like putting out your dirty laundry, all so the dog can smell his way home. Dogs can smell up to 11 miles away. In the comments is a diagram of a wagon wheel showing how to lay out a scent trail leading back to your home ……………do this ASAP…………….. šŸƒšŸ’Ø A dog gets lost away from home or that bolts from a car should have scent left at both the escape point and the home. Lost dogs move in loops, not straight lines, and they often return to the last place they smelled their owner and the long‑term scent anchor at home. Leaving unwashed clothing, the dog’s bedding, and water (no food) at both spots gives the dog two safe scent stations to return to instead of wandering farther. Petco Love Lost is a national lost pet system that scans photos from shelters, rescues, and found pet posts all across the USA. It’s the only database that consistently matches pets using facial recognition AI, so even if your dogs were taken out of state, they can still show up in the system. It’s free, fast, and absolutely worth adding your dogs’ photos — many families have been reunited this way. šŸ”— Petco Love Lost: https://petcolove.org/lost/
