Hi! This guy has been coming to my hse for about a month now for breakfast and dinner. He cries and paws at my back door, and tries to push his way inside. He's sweet, but bites a little, less now that I've been telling him NO BITE! He's learning. He'll come several days in a row, then skip a day. It's raining today and he still came for food. I need to know if he has a home or should go to the shelter. I have 2 cats which is the maximum my cndmnium allows. I don't mind feeding him but his fur isn't thick so he really needs a place to stay for the winter!

I asked AI for tips. Nothing is 100% but maybe some of these help. Scan for a Microchip: Have a local vet, animal control officer, or mobile rescue scan him with a universal scanner. Most clinics will do a quick scan for free. • Post on Ring Neighbors: Anyone can use the free Ring Neighbors app (no Ring camera needed) to drop a "Found Pet" pin. It alerts residents in that immediate Forbes/Wildflower area so they can check their doorbell and security camera footage. • Local Groups & Outlets: Check and post in local Facebook groups (e.g., East Hartford CT Community, Connecticut Lost & Found Pets) and search Nextdoor for recent missing cat posts in 06118. • Not Neutered / Intact Clues: Since he appears to be intact (or cryptorchid), he may have wandered from further away than a typical indoor/outdoor cat while following scent trails. • Plan for Winter / Shelter Intake: Because he's so friendly and asking to come inside, he is almost certainly a lost pet rather than feral. If an owner isn't found soon through chip scans and local posts, reach out early to local no- rescues (like Protectors of Animals right in East Hartford) or CT Humane to line up a shelter or foster placement before cold weather hits.

Thank you for helping! I used to admin several lost and found pet pages and these are suggested tips for a found cat: Please contact animal control and local vets in case owner called them looking. They’ll also scan free for a microchip if you can bring cat in. You may want to post signs for those not on social media. If the cat has a collar without a tag, pls check the inside of the collar as some now have the contact info stamped or printed on the inside. Some have it on the buckle. If female, pls check stomach for /nursing mom and check area for kittens. Be very cautious of those claiming to be owners; ask for proof and/or vet records. There are many people who have ill intentions towards animals especially cats. If you are unable to do any of the above, PLEASE don’t just give the cat to anyone but a reputable rescue who will do their due diligence to find owner or screen potential adopters to find a loving home. Note...if you’re considering finding a new home for this cat...in most states by law, you have to give owners a chance to come forward before rehoming any pet.
