Take to any veterinary clinic, emergency, urgent care hospital, or Humane Society to be scanned for a microchip. Plus, some Petco and pet stores have the ability to scan for microchip. This is a free service Place on pawboost, nextdoor, fidoalert, fbi pet, petco love found, pet finder, 24petconnect, ring neighborhood, found dogs Florida, SPCA found, pet radar, Humane Society Found. Make flyers, post in intersections, pet stores, vet hospitals, gas stations, and neighborhoods. As well, kindly ask your mail carrier and delivery driver to help distribute the flyer(s). When you find a domesticated animal, you must report it to a local shelter (Humane Society, ASPCA, SPCA), local law enforcement, or animal control agency within a reasonable amount of time(usually within 48 hours). They may let you foster until owners are found during their holding time or during adoption time. Legally, you cannot adopt, rehome, or surrender to a rescue, unless the owner signs, notarizes a document stating that you are the new guardian. Florida statute laws consider animals as property, 705.102 (3) If foster and or rescue comes forward and agrees to foster until owners are found, please verify they are a registered foster with a rescue or a 501(c)3 rescue. “Fake” fosters/rescues prey on postings like this. If owner(s) come forward; Ask for vet records (rabies certificate, county registration). Please call and make sure they are legitimate. DL Ask questions and look at the paw baby demeanor towards the “owner(s)”. “Fake” owner(s) prey on postings like this If something does not feel comfortable, take the little one to safety. If they call the police, then let them. I would rather explain why, than a little one being in the hands of “fake” owner(s).. Thank you for keeping the paw baby safe until the owner(s) are found.
