Debbie Abramek Mumbauer Responsible pet ownership is absolutely important, but it’s also important to remember that dogs still have to go outside to use the bathroom. Even with leashes, fenced yards, and every precaution, a terrified dog can panic and slip away in a split second during fireworks or a thunderstorm. It’s also worth recognizing that these owners clearly cared enough to bring their dog with them to spend the holiday with family instead of leaving them home alone during what can be a very stressful day for many dogs. They were trying to do what they thought was best. Most owners whose dogs go missing aren’t being careless, they’re devastated and doing everything they can to bring their pet home. A little empathy goes a long way while still reminding everyone to take every precaution possible. Your ignorance is showing

I agree, there are some hateful inconsiderate people in this thread who have no clue about human decency and don’t use their brain cells wisely. Also, it should be ‘people who HAVE no brain.’

I really think it would be more productive if we could reserve the comment section for folks who are trying to help us out of this, rather than throw stones for how we got here.
