Good advice except in Johnston County the online report is not sufficient. You must call animal control & they have to approve stray hold outside of the shelter.

Thank you for keeping this pet safe and ensuring that anyone who claims to be the owner IS in fact the rightful owner. Getting pet scanned for microchip is free many places, such as your vet’s office, petco, petsmart, animal shelter and many fire stations. Also please contact the local animal shelter and report this pet as found. Pet’s family should call there or go there looking for their fur baby. You should be able to foster the pet at your home, so that the pet doesn’t have to stay at the shelter. Varies by county. These little ones, seniors and puppies shouldn’t be in a shelter environment.
