I need help figuring out how to get this bird to go away. It has killed seven of my 12 chickens in the last 24 hours and I am afraid for my miniature poodle to be injured or taken.

Lynda Beck well as you should know birds have ranges. They don’t just fly willy-nilly outside of their range. Yes occasionally birds can end up outside of the range due to freak storms, etc.. but a big clue that this bird is a falconer bird is that it is wearing jesses on its legs!!! Here is the Harris Hawk range map and as you can see it does not noramally range into CA. Also, Harris Hawks are a very common bird used for falconry.

Deborah V Marie I’ve not seen Raptor shields previously… (but I’m very familiar with coyote vests which look very different). Those darn eagles (which I care very much for) can pick up and fly away with a 5 or 6 pound dog. Your little ones back then were very cute. 🥰 You had a good-sized yard back then. Very nice.

Jill Novelle they are rare for the area, but as you know birds fly. That means there are several possibilities. I won’t assert it belongs to a falconer without someone saying hey it’s my bird. That’s my approach to things.
