Deborah V Marie I was merely responding to what you wrote when you tagged me, you wrote "Feel sorry for people like you who will let their animals be ripped apart and you'd probably just stand there if you were attacked and let them tear you apart" and we were discussing not shooting a 3 pound Harris Hawk. So I'm not sure what you mean but I think this is a waste of time at this point. Fortunately nobody shot the bird and it's safe.

Lynda Beck Thank you, I agree. I'm sorry about the songbirds. My 2 Yorkies don't go in the backyard without me either unless my Dobermans are out there with them. The little ones just do their business and come right back in the house. They have to keep me in their sites at all times LOL But it's not my animals the bird killed. This is mostly what's here in Menifee, but you probably already know. :(

Deborah, I do understand your concern for your animals. I was freaking out when a Cooper’s Hawk was killing my songbirds at my birdfeeder so I get it. The other issue though, is the birds are protected by a federal law known as the migratory bird treaty act. My daughter lived in Felton California. There was an owl in the forest that liked to pick off the chickens that were kept on her property by the owner of the house she rented. After a few losses they finally built a fully enclosed chicken coop, which by the way came in great handy when I visited with my 6 pound Chihuahua. We can’t unalive nature in these situations. That hawk knows where food is and will keep returning until the source is removed or protected. I hope you can find a way to keep your chickens safe. I live in an area where there are many coyotes. My dog can never go outside without me, and always on a leash. Can you do this with your dog? Lots of talk about this bird belonging to a falconer, which may or may not be true because not every banded bird belongs to an individual. They’d have to be specially licensed to possess this bird. Truly hope you can find a way to keep everyone safe.

Deborah V Marie nope. But it is your responsibility to keep your animals safe. You live in an area where wild animals roam. Theyre only doing what they do and they need to eat too. Besides.. law is law.
