Message from Owner

Please help us get our girl . Snoopy is a 2 year old long haired domestic cat that has been indoors her entire life (I have had her since she was 6 weeks old). She got out late last night and has not returned . We have combed the neighborhood with no luck. Any extra eyes out for her would mean the world to us.

I’m so sorry your beautiful fluffy black cat got outside, but please try not to despair. Snoopy is likely hiding close to her escape route, too frightened to come when called or emerge in the daylight. Most indoor cats will attempt to return on their own, usually within the first few nights if the conditions are just right, so if you know what to expect and how to react, you could have her back inside by morning. I've recovered many escaped cats and have a full set of instructions, but I’ll withhold them for now, hopeful you won’t need them. This is what I suggest you do and when: DURING THE DAYTIME alert nearby neighbors in case Snoopy is hiding just beyond your property (under a vehicle, outdoor furniture, shrubs, or in a garage, shed, or carport, etc.), then, if there’s time before dark and you can search SILENTLY without dislodging her from her hiding spot, focus your efforts close to home and tiptoe around in the daylight using a flashlight, but be quiet and discreet so as not to frighten her (shhh! DO NOT CALL or shake treats), check every crack and crevice, look in, under and around sheds, vehicles, furniture, under foundations and porches, into trees etc. but suspend searching when it gets dark to give her the chance to return voluntarily. IMMEDIATELY (if you see this comment overnight) or AT DUSK lay a familiar blanket or worn teeshirt flat on the doorstep where she escaped (DO NOT USE a litter box, bedding, trap or anything obvious -- it's there for scent only) to give Snoopy the confidence to come out of hiding, and place tempting food in front of the door (making sure you can still open it when she returns). Call her softly to provide a familiar sound and direction, then watch and listen closely from inside (DO NOT GO BACK OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT!) and if you see Snoopy approach and settle on the food be very careful not to startle her as you slowly and quietly provide a clear path back inside. If you can't wait up, set an alarm and watch again just before sunrise -- it's a popular time to return. Please let me know what happens tonight and if she's not back by morning, I'll provide more detailed instructions. Also, although some suggest putting out kitty's litter box, EXPERTS WARN AGAINST IT. I've never used one in all the times I've been successful recovering a lost cat. Please read this to learn more about why it's neither necessary nor recommended: https://www.facebook.com/notes/lost-cats-georgia/why-we-dont-recommend-putting-your-lost-cats-litter-box-outside/1101245526665296/

Definitely leave doors and garage doors cracked open as they will try to get back in.. ! Put his kibble or favorite treats inside the doors. Be home..do this in the dark hours , late night.

As a trapper please try the following ASAP! Do NOT leave trap unattended in this cold! Trap will freeze and kitty will too. Watch from window or camera. Set humane trap cage ASAP. Indoor cats don't go far. Check under porches, sheds and anywhere they can hide. Talk to neighbors also. Call shelters, humane society and kennels to see if someone dropped them off. Go look yourself too, don't just go by what they say.. they are busy too.. go out at night when it's quiet and no noise, as they are scared. Only you go, not a bunch of people. Take a bag of treats with you. Also, leave a door cracked and garage door cracked open with food inside.. just keep an eye on it, this way they can run into your house when coming home. They usually go to the door where they got out at. Put up cameras if you can. You can buy humane traps at home Depot, Lowes or there's many shelters that will lend you one. Post on all animal sites. Make sure he didn't get locked in someone's garage or shed. Set up a camera or ask neighbors if they can review their cameras.

And if you haven’t done, so, please get flyers posted, it’s the best way to alert the community that this is a very much loved own kitty. Make them simplistic and enlarge bold font without too much information.LOST CAT SNOPPY!!! place one large colored photo below with your phone number and nearest cross streets were lost. Slipped them in large Ziploc bags to void, deterioration and stapled to everything you can find. Also pass them out to nearby neighbors and ask them to look out buildings in case you’re precious angel went in and cannot exit. I also recommend setting a trap, there’s several rescues that are happy to lend them to you, I believe Orange County Animal care services will do so if any is available. Don’t leave them out at night and don’t leave them out unless you can monitor them. Continue to feed it regular times, but never between dusk and dawn. Smelly wet food is best! Glad at night with the flashlight and look up in trees under cars under porches under out buildings and any place else you think kitty might be hiding. If it has a cat bed, please put it outside and sprinkle with catnip as well. Also put some of your dirty laundry on top. Praying you find your beautiful baby very soon. Do Not put kitty litter outside it attracts predatory animals.!!!

Please open your door and sprinkler catnip just inside, kitties often times come back in on their own when things quiet down.
