A family from Michigan remains in Alachua County, holding onto hope as they search for their missing Yorkie more than a month after he vanished. Deborah Mourray and her daughter, Jessie Metzler, say they have spent thousands of dollars and are now offering a $5,000 reward, desperate to bring their dog back home. Renzo, the 4-year-old Yorkie, went missing Feb. 23 after a stop at a rest area on Interstate 75 between Lake City and Alachua. Mourray left him in the car to use the bathroom. When she got back on the road, she realized he was gone. She believes he may have slipped out at the rest stop. Mourray and Metzler say they have spent countless hours and thousands of dollars trying to find him. What started as a $1,000 reward has now grown to $5,000. An anonymous person contributed to increasing the reward amount. Metzler has been traveling back and forth from her home to Florida to look for Renzo with her mother. They have printed flyers, followed leads, and searched day and night. “Renzo is special to us,” Mourray said. “He’s like a part of our family we can’t replace. It is important to us, and we feel he’s still out there.” The past month has been filled with stress, worry, and heartbreak, they say. Still, they are not giving up.
