Message from Finder

Not sure if this is someone’s pet…we are kinda close to a pond but it’s still a pretty good distance for this little guy to wander.

Please be sure it is a native species before releasing it. Someone might have just released it because it became too large to be kept as a pet, which is a pretty labor intensive and expensive job. If it has a red stripe on either side of its head it is a red eared slider and likely an abandoned pet. It will usually not survive in the wild.

Kim Diane I think the finder is simply asking to be sure it’s not someone’s lost pet before he takes it to the pond or just lets it go where he found it.

Find the closest water source to where she was found and take her back and release her

They travel for various reasons…put the turtle back where you found him/her (the exact location) and it will find its way. If it was crossing the road, put it down on the side of the road it was facing so it doesn’t have to cross again. Unlikely this was a pet…for more information or how to help reach out to the area wildlife rehab center linked below: https://www.wildcatwildlifecenter.org/

Return the turtle to the location where the finder found it. It will find its family without human intervention.
