Message from Owner

Please help us find our baby Floppy (microchip may say “Stink Bug”). He is an indoor cat and went missing last night from our apmt building in the Petersburg/Colonial Heights area. He is extremely friendly and will likely walk right up to people. We are worried he may have wandered into another apmt, hallway, stairwell, storage area, or may have been taken in by someone trying to help him because of the rain. He is grey/brown with black stripes, a white belly, green eyes, and a shaved belly from recently being fixed. We love him very much and just want him home safe.

I'm so sorry about your baby.🥺💔 Most cats stay close to home or near where they were lost so it is critical to be as proactive and persistent, as possible. ●Check everywhere outside even in drain pipes and drains, under cars, under dumpsters, and up in trees. Use a flashlight at night because it will reflect your cat's eyes. ●Walk all the floors of all the apartment buildings regularly, especially at night, as your cat may go to the wrong one. (If an indoor-only cat, just know they typically do not recognize their owners outside because it is a different environment and they are scared.) ●Make sure you have food and water out for your cat near your building under some bushes. ●Sit quietly outside every single day especially in the morning and at dusk/night near the food station (a few feet away) so your cat can get comfortable seeing you there. ●Put dry food in a plastic container with a lid and periodically shake it and call your cat's name. ●Crack your door (only if safe to do so) so your cat can get inside. Cats return at night when you're sleeping so you miss them. ●Put up flyers for neighbors at the apartment mailboxes and on the bulletin boards inside each apartment building. Add the reward $ amount to the flyers. The reward will incite people to intentionally be on the lookout for your cat or to return it to you. ●Work with a cat rescue/shelter to set a cat trap or you can purchase one at Tractor Supply, Home Depot, or on Amazon and set it yourself. Once the trap is set you can pick up the food (leave the water). You will need to monitor the trap. ●Let the apartment management know that your cat is missing and you are setting a trap and why. ●Also post on the Ring app, Nextdoor app and Pawboost and visit pet rescues/shelters in person regularly to see if someone has found your cat and has taken it to one. Give them a flyer and report your cat as missing. ●Rescues and shelters only hold a cat without a microchip 3 to 5 days before putting it up for adoption. Even if it has a microchip, the chip can float and be missed by the scanner. That's why it's critical to consistently visit them. ●Set notification alerts for the Facebook lost and found pets groups in case someone has found your cat. ●Re-check everywhere inside including up in box spring mattresses, back in sofa beds, in air vents, under jacuzzi tubs, in drawers, etc.

Angelina Kellington, You are so welcome! Floppy will hide during the day time and only come out after dark when they feel it is safe .. with just getting out it's possible he will hide under a car .. under the hood or the wheel well .. shed or if there is woods .. he may hide for a few days nearby .. look for him after dark or if anyway possible if you could leave the door ajar and the outside lights off he knows where he got out and he may come back on his own

Dianne Banton thanks so much! We live in an apartment building and we think he might’ve ran out when my boyfriend was leaving for the store and someone might’ve picked him up. We’re hoping when we post flyers someone will see it a return him! I’ve posted everywhere and called the PD, FD, and animal shelter. I hope that we can find my baby🥹

Talk softly when calling late night and during the night to early morning when it quite out .. Might wait in between to see if you hear them meow nearby .... For indoor cats if there is any way you could leave your door garage door or window slightly ajar if possible they know where they got out and will often come back in on their own .. If you didn't see them get out check deep dresser drawers, kitchen and bathroom cabinets, under beds in box springs, behind the frig, the stove, behind or under the sofa, under or in the recliner the washer/dryer or inside if left open .. bat crawl space .. attic .. anywhere small or behind a cat can hide they will! If out cats will hide during the day and are more active late evening near dark to early morning , daybreak ... have a spot light to shine to see eyes in the dark .. they are usually close by and will often come back to the door .. or hide under bushes or decks to feel safe ! Also check crawl spaces under houses , garages, sheds of neighbors nearby ...No food out after dark it will attract area strays and wildlife to the area ... check culvert pipes .. storm drains .. up trees .. and colder weather they will get under car hoods for warmth and on tires also ...this can happen and they could be miles from home . Cats in a new home need at least 30 days to adjust to a new area and may and will travel to get back to their old home .. In some cases a set trap may be needed and monitored! A Trail cam or night vision goggles can help to monitor the areas outside! Post to Nextdoor Ask neighbors to check their Ring Doorbells... Beware of loose and roaming dogs in the area as they will chase and your cats! For automatic garage doors please place a 6x6 block or cinder block so that the door will not come all the way down and trap your pet as they can be injured! Check with area Shelters, Animal Control, and Vets offices also put flyers ... Am sure you have tried most all of these! Don't give up!!
