BEWARE OF SCAMMERS: People with missing pets are already suffering from loss, and taking advantage of their pain is a new low even for thieves. Remember these tips if you’re asking for help with finding a lost pet. • If someone finds your lost pet, there is no need to ask for a phone code to verify your identity. Anyone who asks you for this does not have your missing pet or your best interests in mind. • You can confirm if someone has actually found your missing pet by requesting a photo. If they refuse to cooperate, they may be trying to scam you out of data or reward money. • You can protect your pet and make it easier to locate by having them implanted with a microchip containing information. A veterinarian or animal shelter worker can scan the chip and find your phone number if your lost pet turns up. Ask your pet’s vet for more information. • Watch out for overly enthusiastic or emotional messages about your pet from scammers. They may be trying to play on your vulnerability by tugging at your heartstrings.

WHAT TO DO NOW? Make sure you have someone in that area keep an eye out for him/her and check his/her house/yard. Make sure you are checking all of the shelters. Listen for dogs barking in your neighborhood and follow those barks. GO DOOR TO DOOR WITH FLYERS with your pets picture and your contact info, let them know EVERYONE is searching for this pet, let them know it’s all over the social media & community’s are looking out and aware this animal is missing, let them know animal Control has been notified as well, Sometimes homes with small children might have these animals as the parents might see the kids excitement of having the pet and think (Against the law Felony) they can keep it. Do NOT share too many details about a found pet, let the owner TELL you what their pet looks like and any markings or traits to look for! 🐾File Lost/Found reports ASAP with shelters in the area the pet was Lost/found 🐾Review Lost/Found reports filed with shelters, look at Injured, quarantined & Deceased reports as well. 🐾Have pet scanned for a microchip, Animal shelters/Petsmart/vets/Animal Hospitals scan for free. If the chip is not registered the chip company can tell you which vet/shelter implanted the chip and that facility should have owner's info on file and will call for you. --Make Flyers in Spanish and English so “Everyone” is informed. -- Hang Lost or Found/Flyers in the area the pet was Lost/Found, Put them a stop lights if allowed, stop signs, your yard, a community mail box or in places where people have idle time to read them! LOST DOG: suggestions for posting. Post on Pawboost.com, Nextdoor, lostmydoggie, Craigslist, Ring and Neighbors. Check those sites for found dogs that may be your dog. Get lots of good quality flyers up in the neighborhood. Put neon poster board behind them to draw attention. Knock on doors, pass out flyers. Someone may have taken her/him in. Check ALL surrounding Shelters, daily.
