Message from Owner

Sylvester has been our hse cat for 5 yrs and unexpectedly got out of the hse late last night. He was in the fenced chicken yard this morning, but escaped. He's normally a loving kitty, but he's scared and hasn't eaten since last evening. We love him so much and want him back safe before something bad happens to him. Please call or text us if you see him or know anything at all.

Thanks so much for checking, but we're still seeing Sylvester regularly around our property on our security cameras. You surely have another tuxedo cat, but Sylvester has white coming up around his nose. I'm attaching a face-front young picture of him. I hope you can find "your" tuxedo cat's owner.

Kathy Gonnelly posted a picture on Custer Connect 2.0 Facebook page of a cat that looks justblike Sylvester. She said he's been hanging out under her garage and shed... C St and Bluebell in Custer. I hope it's Sylvester.

Thank you, Stacy, for your response, but the cat in your neighborhood is apparently not our cat. Sylvester has now been hanging around our property. We see him on our security cameras at least once a day during the night and are still hoping to be able to trap him before something bad happens to him. Hope you can reunite your latest neighborhood cat with its owners like you did before. Keep up the good work!

We have had a very large tuxedo cat hanging around our neighborhood Sun County lane near Rockerville this past week. I thought it was my neighbors cat but he said no. I’ll try n get a pic of it when I see it again. Maybe it hitched a ride. Two summers ago I had a cat make it out here from Box Elder. Took me 2 months to trap it and find the owners but I did.

I've read that tuxedo cats are special for a number of reasons. I hope your cat is as special as Sylvester.

Lora Willey Thank you for the suggestions, some of which we are already trying. We can't put out his favorite bed because it's our bed! He always slept on our bed with us (his idea) and napped on it during the day. We put out a havahart trap where we last saw him on our property before he left altogether. We trapped a cat, but it wasn't Sylvester. We have security cameras around our property (primarily for viewing wildlife) and haven't seen any sign of him. The food we put out wasn't touched, but we'll continue with that.

I would set a trap now since he's playing hide and seek. This is what they do when they're unsure of themselves. It's time for Plan B. Withhold food (not water) so he's hungry and ready to eat. Put food in a large carrier or small wire kennel so he has to walk inside. Rig the door with a long nylon rope so you can pull it shut while he's in there. Run the rope from the open door through the inside of the carrier or kennel. Tie the rope on the edge of the door halfway up for balanced leverage. Put the food in after dark and hide close by with enough light so you can see him walk in. Someone can hold the flashlight from a distance while another pulls the rope once he's inside and eating. Pull that rope tight while someone else gets the latch secured on the kennel door. Double check that door before transporting the kennel to the house. This works very well so give it a try. Otherwise, a humane trap will need to be used. I like the using the kennel/carrier capture first as it's not as scary as the snapping trap door. Let me know how it goes. You can call me, if needed.

Does he have a favorite blanket or pet bed. You may have to put that out. Does any of your neighbors or yourself have decks. I know our indoor/outdoor cat likes to go under the deck. Do you also have an old worn shoe that you can set out with your scent or a piece of clothing that he may feel more comfort. Otherwise I would get a live trap and bait it with his favorite food and treats and place it where you have seen him.
