Message from Owner

Sylvester has been our hse cat for 5 yrs and unexpectedly got out of the hse late last night. He was in the fenced chicken yard this morning, but escaped. He's normally a loving kitty, but he's scared and hasn't eaten since last evening. We love him so much and want him back safe before something bad happens to him. Please call or text us if you see him or know anything at all.

Thank you for your response and suggestions, Daniela, and keeping a lookout for our Sylvester. We've lived here for 10 years and he's been our indoor cat for 5 years, hasn't been out of the house in that time. We keep hoping that he'll decide to come back to all the comforts of home, especially since it snowed last night.

I keep an eye out daily when I drive to feed the horses.. ask neighbors if they have seen him too..we have a female that adopted us and our cat.. first I thought she got left behind but found out she belongs to our neighbor across the road.. My gut tells me she knows where she belongs too but for some reason (maybe the amount of coyotes) might be the reason she doesn’t feels safe over there.. maybe something has threatened your cat? Also it’s spring warm.. might be an other cat around? Or if you have moved recently.. it takes at least 3 month for cats to adjust (no outdoor!)

Mary Anne Ecker Thank you so much for all the suggestions. We had already implemented some of them. We saw his eyes reflecting in the chicken yard last night, which was how we knew where to look for him this morning. Unfortunately, he found a way out and left. He wouldn't come to us, which is so unlike him. He even always slept on our bed with us every night. He has always been a comfort to us, which makes this so much harder. Please pray for him.

Don't panic. He's more than likely hiding in fear. Set his litter box outside and a temporary shelter under cover from the elements or cover both in large plastic bags to waterproof. The smell of his litter will keep him close by. You can tell if he's used it. Make sure he has plenty of water (warm when it's cold) and very little food as we want him hungry, so he'll want back in the house. Check your trees, sheds and outbuildings and ask your neighbors to do the same. Cats love hiding under sheds. After dark set a can of smelly cat food or sardines to lure him out of hiding. Scan the area with a flashlight while calling him in a peaceful tone of voice. No hollering or chaos as this will scare him. If he's watching you the light will reflect off his eyes. Put up posters at intersections using white plasterboard with bold, black printing, a picture of your cat and a contact number. Keep the posters simple and bold so they are visible to people in vehicles. If need be, you can borrow and set a humane trap but only as a last resort. If you do, put a can of sardines in the far end of the trap. These steps work very well. Best wishes. I hope he's secured soon. You can call me if you have questions: 605-381-5805.
