OP, **DON'T** put out his used litter!!! It is one of the worst pieces of advice that well-meaning, but misguided, people offer. It attracts predators and rival cats, who may fight him, or at least make him hunker down. Place an article of clothing, scented of his favorite human, outside under your porch overhang, or similar. Fresh water and stinky food, in the morning. If you know his egress point, prop it open, so he can come back in, when he's ready. Best luck finding your boy and consider "grounding" him, for *life.*
