She's been gone since last Wednesday. Received a call today that she was seen going towards the railroad tracks on Greenleaf Ave in Burlington. I was only a couple blocks away when I got the call but didn't see her in the area when I got there and tried looking for her.

LOST DOG SURVIVAL MODES: UNDERSTAND. STAY CALM. BRING THEM HOME. When a dog goes missing, especially in an unfamilar or stressful situation, they will enter "survival mode" at some point. This psychological and physiological state affects their behavior dramatically, even if they were previously friendly and well trained. WHAT IS SURVIVAL MODE? Survival mode is the brain's instinctive response to stress, fear, and unfamiliarity. Once activated, your dog is no longer behaving based on training, affection, or even hunger in the usual way. They are now operating on instincts to avoid danger, find shelter/water, and stay alive. Their serotonin levels deplete and they lose their short term memory. COMMON LOST DOG SURVIVAL BEHAVIORS Avoids all people (even their owner). Runs from sounds, movement,or voices. Hides during the day, moves at night. Avoids open spaces; prefers woods, fields, or under structures. Will ignore being called, even by name. Becomes silent, no barking or crying. Focuses on finding food, water, and shelter only. Can stay within a small area or wander for miles depending on environment or temperament. DO's: Stay calm and patient. Use scent items (bedding, clothing, etc.) at the last known location or possibly a feeding station. Post large neon signs and use flyers. Set up trail cameras etc. Follow up on all sightings immediately and quietly. Contact a Lost Dog Recovery team with proven experience and knowledge to guide you through the necessary steps and create a tailored plan for your situation. DON'T's: Chase your dog or allow others to. Yell, whistle, or call out if you see them (this can trigger fight response). Assume they' "come when called". Put pressure on the dog to approach. BEST STRATEGY: Once in survival mode, your best chance of recovery is through containment and calm strategy, not pursuit. Use bonded human or sibling dogs, food stations to keep in place, trap setups (if needed), and community awareness to gently guide the dog back to safety. KNOWLEDGE-+ PATIENCE -+ THE RIGHT STRATEGY = HOPE YOU CAN BRING THEM HOME. STAY CALM. STAY INFORMED. STAY HOPEFUL.
