Put up flyers in area found in case owners aren't on social media. Also, please bring inside before the wrong person gets hold of it or it gets hit by car. Make sure any person claiming has proof of ownership as vet bill with their name on it and animals name on it, or picture not photo shopped of the one you pasted on Facebook. Don't give away for free. Too many people selling for bait in dog fighting or sell animals for experiments in research labs. Thank you for helping . Let humane associations and police know too. Owners will look there.

There are some resources that might help you find its family... You can check Petco Love Lost to check against Lost and Found pet databases. Join nextdoor . com and post your found dog there. It is free and will allow your neighbors and anyone in your area who uses it to see your post. You can send its picture/description with your contact info to Greene County animal control in case its family looks for it there. Also, here is a list of additional resources for local lost and found pets: https://linktr.ee/SGFCheckTheChip On a separate note, you may already know this; but just in case, I wanted to share... *Please* require proof (pics or vet records with pics) from anyone claiming ownership. Or if you cannot find its family and are unable to keep it, please require veternarian references and a home inspection from anyone who wants to foster or adopt it, and please also charge a small rehoming fee (at least $50) for adopters, for its safety. Or even better, have them foster it through a local rescue (Rescue One, HavaHeart Rescue, C.A.R.E. Animal Rescue, etc.) Rescues add a layer of protection for dogs because they screen all applicants. They will also provide fosters with all the supplies and food they need and pay for any veterinarian care needed (if you can foster it, they will do that for you as well). They will also get it vaccinated and fixed if it is not already, so that it can't make any more puppies to find homes for. And a rescue (even if they are completely full) will take a dog if you are willing to foster them or if you already have a committed foster lined up for them. The reason for these precautions is that there are people who look online for free dogs to use as bait in dogfighting or to flip for money. They seem nice and sincere and know what to say to seem legit. They may dress up or even bring their kids with them. But their intentions are bad. THANK YOU for looking out for this puppy; and best of luck in finding its people, or finding a good foster until the original family can be found, or a good adopter if they cannot ever be found (although hopefully that will not be the case)!
