Lost pet what to do and list of rescue groups Contact town/city animal control officer and police give description and your contact information- emphasize your pet is friendly Also contact surrounding areas A tshirt you have worn drag along property line rub on trees and bushes to leave your scent then leave Tshirt by the front door and one by the back door Dogs have great sense of smell and leaving your scent will help them find their home If microchip contact the company ask them to send out missing notices and double check all your info is up to date Contact shelters in area Post on all FB lost pet sites in your area, Ring and Nextdoor app and if need outside your area Put flyers up in stores, on poles Go out in the early morning and at dinner time have a jar with dry food to shake. Also smelly treats and/or hot dogs. A flashlight, training leash it’s easy to slip over their head. Bring flyers with you and knock on doors leave a flyer if not home. Post flyers in all neighborhoods on telephone poles and at stores. Look under bushes, sheds, decks anywhere they can hide. The flashlight will reflect their eyes Do a grid* search extend the grid every 3-5 miles. Then extend it the next day Send flyers to vets offices in a 5-30 mile radius just in case someone brings the dog to a vets office. Call and send flyers to rescue, shelters. Send flyers to town police dept and animal control officers and also surrounding towns. Also make appointment with shelters to visit so you can look to see if your dog is there Ask delivery people (UPS, FedEx etc) to put up flyers at the depot. *grid search -the location where your dog disappeared is the center of search. Draw on a scaled map a 3-5 miles circle. Search that area. Then draw another circle 6-8 miles from center search between the 3 & 6 mile grid. Keep increasing by 3-5 miles.
