See guidelines below to help ensure a safe and successful transition into a new home. Sadly, there are cat hating psychopaths/ sociopaths and "rescue groups" who trawl these sites, with intent to harm / torture / cats, inc to use as bait for dog fighting / greyhound racing / hunting / fishing / to feed pet snakes, etc. 😞 Or farmers who want outdoor / barn cats to mice, then the cats once mouse plague is over. 😞. (They pretend to be caring and / or even send their well-presenting wives / children to collect). :-( Or others who are too unstable / careless / irresponsible. 😞 Or those who sell on (particularly extra beautiful or pedigree pets) to make a profit, not discerning re new safe and responsible owners 😞 Or those who have a good heart, mean well, but take on too many cats. (Cats long-term in cages, over-crowded, squalid conditions. Owner / "rescue" struggles in poverty, unintentionally / obliviously neglecting / harming the cats) 😞 Be suious of new, or locked, Facebook profiles. Or often seeking new pets. Visit any potential new home or "rescue" to vet for hazards. (eg vicious dogs, busy roads, toxins, snakes, ticks, excessive noise / smoke, aggressive adults / children, high-rise without balcony safety netting, etc). Check the address you visit matches their licence & bills address. (A responsible, caring person will understand why you need to do this). If the potential new owner / "rescue" isn't willing to allow you to see their home / premises, red flag! Ask what happened to previous cat /s or dogs. (Good indicator of a safe, stable, happy home: the cat lived to an old age 18+ until, needed to be humanely put down at the vet. Confirm with vet. Red flag: last 3 cats ed on the road / attacked by dogs / disappeared ...) 😞 Attain independent evidence (inc vet references), that the new owner is a genuine, responsible, caring and stable cat lover. Match vet references with licence address. Call / visit the vet to ensure the reference is genuine. (Ideally known to the vet over a long period of time). Prioritize responsible owners who keep cats indoors and / or in a very secure cat enclosure / catio. (Safer for cats and wildlife. Research confirms contained cats live an average of 10+ years longer than free roaming ones). Most important: Cats must be locked in for 3+ weeks (preferably forever), to bond to a new home. Otherwise, sooner or later will likely try to head back to your place (and might become hopelessly lost / injured / ed. Also, most cats are escape artists until bonded to new home (eg breaking through mosquito netting and forcing sliding doors / windows open). New owner must be extra vigilant! (To help securely contain a cat: Water spray bottles at door entries / exits. Dowell in window / door tracts to prevent opening more than 2cm, no other gaps for cats to squeeze through. Some cats somehow flatten themselves to escape under doorways!) Introducing new cats to other cats is easiest if they are kept in a dog crate / cage. (With pet bed, litter tray & heavy food bowls), for a week or so. Until cats safely get to know / accept each other through cage bars. If possible, offer a trial period of a few weeks, which allows the new owner to return the cat/s. Request you be informed if somehow the cat escapes. Keep cat/s microchipped in your name, until happily settled into the new home. (Request follow-up photos for peace of mind). All the best 🙏

Might be loved and lost: Please door knock. If no success finding owner (with proof of ownership), please distribute found posters (& leaflets?), as not everyone on Facebook. Please leave strong smelling food (eg tinned Whiskas cat food, meat and fish flavour, or hot BBQ chicken) out from dusk, in a safe, discrete, level location (eg behind bushes, not visible from street view). Preferably every evening until owner found. If someone claims, please request proof of ownership (eg, photos of cat and owner together not AI generated, microchip papers, or unique, unobvious distinguishing features). Also, ID, which matches physical address. For safety reasons (to protect from cat hating psychopaths) 😞 ... Call a reputable rescue group for a microchip scan (and / or if required, to catch with a cat trap). If no rescue group is available, hire a humane cat trap (not a possum trap) from Kennards Hire. Ask to be shown, or google, how to use. When cat caught, cover trap in a towel, to help it feel safe. Last resort (as stressful for cat, could escape, end up at pound, or worse), take to vet (in a very secure cat carrier, or in cat trap) for a microchip scan and health check. If owner located, please explain that most cats need to be locked in for 3+ weeks to bond to a new (or old) home, otherwise sooner or later might try to head back to previous territory and become hopelessly lost ... Also, most cats are escape artists until they are bonded to new homes (eg, breaking through mosquito netting and forcing sliding doors / windows open. Best use a piece of dowell in door / window tracts to prevent opening more than 2 cm). To be extra vigilant! Thanks for caring 🙏
