Black, medium hair cat with orange collar. Had a purple bandage around his chest.

Message from Owner

Jack has skin issues and allergies to bug bites. He has no fur on his nose and had a purple bandage around his chest. I have tried more than once to make him an indoor cat but he refuses. He is happiest outside in the sun, bugs and all. He has never strayed far from home in the 6 years I have had him and is always there to greet me when I get home. He has been gone almost two weeks and I’m losing hope.

George Vela Hey George, would you be able to send a photo? I'm Jack's Dad and would know if its him or not.

Hey I’m not sure if it’s the same cat but I live in the highland park area and there’s a friendly cat here at my house that matches the description

Leave open a garage door, sliding patio door, window, etc. Cats will often hide during the day and move under the cover of darkness and sneak back into the house. Several cats have returned to their owners this way recently. It is effective. Also, keep walking your neighborhood, they usually don’t go very far but can be scared and hiding. Check under decks, bushes, or just sit quietly for hours to see if you see or hear your cat. See if any neighbors have Ring/doorbell cameras or other cameras and ask them to check their footage to see if they see your cat. Also think about setting a humane trap. A lot of shelters or animal rescue groups have them to loan. Cover the trap with a blanket or something so it doesn’t look like a trap. Bait the trap with a food your cat loves. You have to constantly check the trap though. You might catch a wild animal and that is super stressful for the animal (just release it asap), plus, depending on the weather, extreme cold or heat, it can be dangerous. But if you can check a trap every hour or put a camera on it, it is a good way to catch your cat. You may have to camouflage the trap a bit with a blanket or tree branches. Traps can look scary.

The only way a lost cat can find its way home is with its nose. They have to use their sense of smell to get home again. Put anything outside that smells like their territory. Put the pajamas you slept in outside because you probably sweated in them. Put out their food your stinky socks your smelly sneakers anything you can think of that the cat will recognize by smell. Cats usually stay within a five house radius of their own home for up to a week or so sleeping in the bushes during the day and coming out at dusk and dawn. Those are good times to take a walk shaking the treat bag calling out but cats also tend to come out and walk around very late at night. Try to keep a door cracked if you can whether it's the garage or whatever or a window cracked so you can hear them if they call out for you. Put this on all of the neighborhood pages as well as lost and found pets sites. Knock on the neighbors doors and make sure they know you're looking for your cat. Good luck PS cats can smell up to one mile away from their own house. Absolutely no litterbox outside or food. It attracts predators is why. Never give up.

**Post flyers ** Many aren't on social media. Post on Ring, PetFBI, Petcolove, and other lost and found sites for your area. Leave your garage door up slightly so he can get in to safety. With a flashlight check under bushes, porches, cars, decks, sheds, up in trees, on roofs, drainage ditches, and anywhere he could fit to hide. Shake his snack container gently and call his name softly several times a day. Put his bedding and something unwashed of yours on your porch for a scent he can follow to find home if he gets disoriented. Sending prayers for your precious beautiful kitty 🙏
