Message from Owner

This is the first time Biskit has not come at night since we've had him. He is such a friendly cat that I suspect he has been taken in by someone who doesn't follow social media and doesn't know how to get back in touch with us since he is missing his ID collar. Biskit is microchipped and all his veterinarian records are with the Manlius Veterinarian hosp located on Pompey Center Road. His sister Muffin, who was the runt of the same litter we got him from, looks for him every day to come . She misses him dearly. If you have seen him or know of someone who recently has taken him in we would greatly appreciate you getting in contact with us. My cell phone number is. Our and his is at 4113 Pompey Center Road. I will gladly come and get him when I receive a call.

Re your lost cat: Stressful! Please be open to many possibilities. There is quality research which indicates most 'lost' cats are hiding, scared (especially if chased or injured), possibly disoriented, within 500 metres from where lost (less for indoor cats). Some cats fear making a noise in case it attracts predators, so might not respond to your calls. They can squeeze into the tightest crevices (sometimes get stuck), why very thorough searches are required. Please search all through sheds, garages, under buildings, desks, in drains, bins, skips, in between tall walls and fences, roof and wall cavities, on rooves, up trees, vacant buildings, storage areas etc. (Might be hiding or locked in / trapped somewhere, surviving on insects, etc). Don't trust neighbours to search!!! (Or at least not as thoroughly as you. Some don't search at all. Cats have been found dead too late because neighbours "forgot" / did not bother). You are more likely to do the thorough search required. (Best ask permission to search yourself, or go with your neighbour). Call down drains with strong smelling food. If you can lift the grate and enter the drain, even better. (One cat recently found 500 metres away, down a drain). And /or create a temporary, stable ramp (eg with a branch of wood) from inside to outside of the drain, call down & leave strong food outside overnight. 10pm - 5am walks with strong smelling food and torch, when no cars: call calmly, stop, listen, wait. Leave a door open if safe with food inside. Leave strong smelling food (eg tinned Whiskas cat food meat and fish flavour or hot BBQ chicken) and water out overnight, near exit point and possible hiding places / where might be trapped. If food eaten, last resort, a cat trap on level ground in a safe, discreet location. Google how to use safely, monitor closely. Do not leave a trap unattended! Remain nearby. Posters, leaflets and door knock. CCTV cameras. Vets, pounds and animal welfare organisations, regularly with photo. Ensure microchip details are correct, register as lost. Do all at previous address, if puss recently moved home. (One cat recently travelled 26km to previous address, arrived 6 weeks after lost. Another found 500 metres away from where lost, 7 months later). Most cats need to be locked in for 3+ weeks to bond to a new home, otherwise sooner or later might try o head back to previous home or territory. Most cats are escape artists until bonded to new home! (eg breaking through mosquito netting and forcing sliding doors / windows open). Be extra vigilant !! New / timid cats & kittens are prone to hiding / getting stuck under / behind / in, furniture. So also check in / behind / under drawers, wardrobes, low lounges / beds, recliner chairs (don't move leg rest until double-checked), behind fridges where warm, washing machines (always check inside before washing). Be extra careful moving furniture! Behind / under kitchen cupboards & behind rangehoods, are other potential areas to be trapped. Do all of the above many times (in case your cat moves). Track down where any vehicles puss might have entered travelled to, do same there. 😞 🙏 (See Find Booboo page: determined owner perservered for 7+ months before found her skinny cat). Please consider keeping indoors and / or invest in a very secure cat enclosure or catio. (Research has found it adds 10+ years to average age of cats. Safer for cats and wildlife). Be aware of dodgy scams claiming to find or rescue your cat. Seek independent reviews before engaging & providing your personal details. Don't give up searching ... 🙏

Here is a list of tips to use to find your kitty: Have you checked sheds, garages, etc...? If you have a regular feeding time, get some sardines, people tuna or a roaster chicken from the supermarket and go outside and call his/her name. Also put some dry food in a plastic container and shake it while you are looking for him/her. DO NOT LEAVE food outside because it will attract other critters. Get a good flashlight and look up trees at night. Put their litter box outside, (but do not leave it unattended because it will attract predators) as well as some dirty clothes so they can catch scents. If you have neighbors that put food out for their cats or strays, go check it out. A friend of mines cat went missing for weeks, he was found across the street eating with some other cats. Another thing, if your cat likes catnip and/or laser lights, you can use them to attract them. My cats hear the keychain from the laser light and they come running! The best time to find escapees is either early in the AM while it is still dark out or early PM when it is getting dark. Cats usually hide during the day. Chances are he/she isn't far from home. Put him/her on pawboost, nextdoor and craigslist and print out flyers to hang around your neighborhood, don't just call the humane society or check their website, go there in person every day! There are numerous lost/found pet pages on facebook, be sure and put him/her on there too! Also, call all of the local vets, he/she could have gotten picked up and taken to a vet.

If you haven't put his picture in the lost and found section of your newspaper, i suggest you do so. If someone took him in and they don't have access to the internet, this may be where they see it. Also, put up flyers, physically visit local shelters and veterinarian offices. Don't call, you can't count on staff being accurate. Praying you find your kitty. 🙏

This has become a random article of tips and tendencies of cats when they escape outside. Not everything can be done all year due to weather but it’s still valuable knowledge should your cat be out of doors. Best of luck. Use sardines (not olive oil) juice trace up to entrance of house - place sardines inside door and leave door ajar for them to enter. There’s also these tips; IF YOUR CAT GETS OUT 🐾 📌 Please Take Our Tips: THESE MAY SOUND CRAZY BUT CATS ARE NOT LIKE HUMANS THEY RATIONALIZE DIFFERENTLY Put something that smells like you, on your porch or lawn. Leave bowls of food out - tuna/sardines, rotisserie chicken. Pour chicken broth up the sidewalk to your front door. SCENT IS EVERYTHING !! Do these things right now. Go out searching after it's dark and quiet. Cats come out of hiding after dark, especially between 2-5 AM. Bring a bag of treats to shake. Stand in front of your house and call softly. Many times cats will come running. FLIERS MUST GO UP ASAP TO GET SIGHTINGS. Every pole/tree/neighbors stoops/porches. Offer reward. Give fliers to mailman, UPS drivers, fed ex drivers, etc. Local supermarket, dry cleaners, drug store should have a flier. Call local dog control officer and report the cat as lost. Ditto for shelters. You must visit shelters - the person on the phone doesn't know every pet brought in. Delegate to friends so that you get the posters up ASAP!!!! We've recently reunited cats that were stuck in neighbor's sheds/garages and bats. Look under bushes, in/behind sheds, or neighbor's porches with flashlight. It'll make the cat's eyes glow so you can spot it. Don't drive around! If your cat is an indoor only cat, it hasn't travelled more than 2-4 blocksaway. *Very important- leave a door or window open, no matter what weather, for him to come back in in the middle of the night. Use a scratching post or chair in front of it to facilitate that. Put some food near. Many cats are scared but will come out after dark and return inside. Most cats return between 2-5 AM. This is from a study that was done on lost cats: Cats are very different from dogs when panicked. They are territorial and your cat’s territory was inside of your home. Once a cat is transplanted into unfamiliar territory, fear sets in and it seeks shelter because it is afraid. They panic immediately and look to hide usually near the escape point or within a 5-house radius of their home where they've never been before. Cats that are afraid (and cats that are injured) will seek areas of concealment such as under a deck, under a house, under a porch, or in heavy brush and they will not meow! Panicked cats hide in silence. Silence is their only protective measure from predators. They can stay concealed for days, sometimes weeks! Just because you don’t see or hear your cat DOES NOT mean he or she is not right there, hiding in fear from the loud noises, etc. Some will not meow! Meowing would give up their location to a predator. Their behavior has nothing to do with whether the cat loves you, whether it recognizes your voice, or whether it can smell you–it has everything to do with the fact that most frightened cats will hide in silence! The Threshold Factor: This is an interesting behavioral pattern that Missing Pet Partnership has observed with displaced cats. Many of these cats initially hide in silence, but eventually break cover and meow, return to their home or the escape point (window or door), or finally enter a humane trap. While some cats take only hours or a few days to reach their threshold, many others take several days (typically ten to twelve days) before they break cover. We suspect the threshold is reached due to their thirst, although more research needs to be conducted into this behavior. Some people have slept out on their porch and their lost cat jumped up on them at 5am to sleep- best Idea I’ve heard yet. In an attempt to capture your cat, use humane traps with sardines in your yard or in your neighbor’s yard where your cat is likely hiding in fear. If you choose not to, place small amounts of cat food (and water) and hopefully you’ll eventually be able to determine where the cat is hiding. If your cat is microchipped, please call the company to make sure they have your correct info in case someone takes your kitty to be checked and so they can contact you Also: inquire on the Local Feral Cat rescue FB page it might join a colony and eat with them. Give your location and ask if any group has seen a new cat hanging around. Though ferals will fight him for the food.
