I have seen this cat at the corner of Duke and James for months. Is very scared but has been warming up to me. Looks healthy. Might be a pet but have seen out all hours of the night

Hey all. I’m the one who posted. I’ve been feeding the cat and giving water every night. She (I think) had warmed up to me a lot and has even let me pet her. I’ve contacted someone who deals with stray cats to help trap her and get her checked for a chip etc.. thanks for sharing.

Please give food and water - please secure kitty - at least kitty will be safe - and if someone comes to claim this pet - please make sure that they are the rightful owners as there are unscrupulous people out there that surf these sites - if no one comes to claim this pet - contact some rescues or adopt this sweet fur baby - thanks so very much for caring!

The best practice is to safely secure the cat and bring him or her to a veterinarian for a free microchip scan. You can also take the cat to Hamilton Animal Services, where they will complete a standard stray intake. If the cat is microchipped, they will work to reunite them with their owner. If the cat is not microchipped, they will hold the cat for a minimum of five days to allow time for an owner to come forward. If no owner is found, the cat may be placed in their adoption program or transferred to an authorized rescue that can assist with placement. Before bringing a cat to Hamilton Animal Services, please make sure the cat has a good temperament. There is an important difference between a frightened cat and an unsocialized or feral cat. A scared, socialized cat may be nervous but is still accustomed to people, whereas an unsocialized cat is not. Knowing the difference helps ensure the cat is directed to the most appropriate outcome.
