OWNER HERE: MARY WAS FOUND!!! YOU GUYS ARE THE REASON MARY IS HOME :) I genuinely couldn’t have done it without you guys. We aren’t from around here, and I tried every single suggestion and at some point it worked esp with the quietly searching instead of yelling and shaking treats, and we found her wedged inside a discarded bed frame nearby. much love to everyone who shared commented and offered advice ❤️

Mary is a beautiful tortoises cat (tricolor, calico) -- I'm sorry she's lost. Is Mary an escaped indoor cat or allowed outside? Her familiarity with the environment will dictate how to find her. Escaped indoor cats usually hide close by but are too frightened to return or respond when called; while a cat that knows her way around may have become stuck somewhere and needs help getting home. I have recovered many lost cats and assisted others so if you tell me about Mary I can provide complete instructions that may help. Please understand an indoor cat will be fearful and hide close to home so if you search, tiptoe SILENTLY during during the DAYTIME only (no calling or shaking treats) or do just the right things and she may emerge when it's dark and quiet to sneak back inside. This usually happens within the first few nights so until I hear back from you please implement this strategy if Mary got out accidentally: lay a familiar blanket or worn teeshirt flat on the doorstep where she got out (don't use a litter box, bed, trap, or anything conuous) along with a bowl of food. Call her softly to provide a familiar sound and direction (she won't come on command) then watch from inside (DO NOT GO BACK OUTSIDE OVERNIGHT!) and if you see Mary approach and settle on the food be careful not to startle her. Slowly and quietly provide a clear path inside and she may put an end to the crisis herself. If you can't wait up set an alarm and watch again just before sunrise -- it's a popular time. Also, although some will suggest putting out kitty's litter box, experts say DON’T DO IT. I've never used one in all the times I've been successful recovering a lost cat. Please read this to learn more about why it's neither necessary nor recommended: https://www.facebook.com/notes/lost-cats-georgia/why-we-dont-recommend-putting-your-lost-cats-litter-box-outside/1101245526665296/

You can purchase a trap from Tractor Supply or Home Depot or Amazon or see if you can borrow or rent one from a local rescue or TNR group. Put a piece of your clothing with your scent on it inside and some wet food and set the trap and cover it with a towel (they feel more secure hidden) and monitor it in the morning🙏❣️ remember kitties are naturally nocturnal, so they will hide during the day and move at night time looking for a food source or trying to get home. This is when most of us are sleeping. That's why the trap is ideal. Monitor it early in the morning. If you catch a critter go ahead and release it and wash the trap and reset. They leave a smell behind which may deter your baby from going in. If you catch another kitty, you can always take it to a local vet or shelter for a free chip check and you might be able to help return someone else's missing baby home.♥️ also get a big sign in the front yard so in case someone does have or sees this baby and does not see this post, they can contact the owner that way. Also get lots of signs posted in the neighborhood. Keep checking on your local county FB group pages. You can search the group by "cat" to see all the cat posts only💗
