Message from Owner

Hi, I was watching a friend’s dog and their dog, named Cali, got out of the door yesterday afternoon. Many people have been trying to help and Cali has not been found yet. She was last seen on Foxlair Road off of New Hope Church Road, last night, Friday 1/30, about 6:30PM. I please need your help! Please call me if you see her. My name is Megan. Please do not approach her, let her come to you. Cali is gentle and skittish. I hope to get Cali back to her owners. God is bless you and thank you for reading.

To parents of lost pets: Beware of scammers who will comment with links for "lost" pets services. And they will CALL or MESSAGE you also. Do not fall for their scams. Also, they call using what seems like legit shelter number saying pet needs surgery/help. Hang up and call shelter directly.

Displaced Dogs Here are tips for a dog lost from an unfamiliar location. DISPLACED LOST DOGS https://lostdogsofamerica.org/tips-for-dogs-that-are.../ Please add this to your resources. It proves to be true a great percentage of the time: DOGS LOST FROM OTHER THAN HOME__DISPLACED DOGS / LOST CAMPING DOGS ACTION PLAN PLEASE READ BELOW, these are PROVEN techniques to HELP get your dog back. * EXTREMELY IMPORTANT * DO NOT YELL OR CHASE YOUR DOG if you see them!! Dogs lost in wrecks are panicked & skittish, yelling for them often times causes them to run out of fear. Be patient and let them come to you. * FIRST-SCENT ITEMS Dogs lost from car accidents or when camping do not usually venture far from the scene of the crash. They will run from the wreck and hide near by, creeping back to the crash site shortly after the accident (many times the first night) if they run further away they will circle back around to the crash site in the upcoming days. Get SCENT ITEMS OUT PUT OUT FORMING SEVERAL TRAILS IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS...BUT IN SAFE AREA.. LIKE SPOKES OF A WAGON WHEEL *SECOND IF POSSIBLE STAY AT THE ACCIDENT SITE or where LOST SITE IS (LIKE IF YOU'RE CAMPING OUT) THEY ARE THERE!!! STAY NEAR BUT IN A SAFE PLACE IN THE DIRECTION AND ON SAME SIDE OF ROAD YOU SAW THEM RUN. Use a disposable grill (Walmart carries them) KEEP FOOD COOKING bacon or hot dogs, good smelly food. STAY IN ONE SPOT, Don't move it around...UNTIL THEY COME TO YOU & THEY WILL!! *WHAT TO BRING/GET* Be sure to bring these items to accident site to set up" **SCENT ARTICLES** For COMFORT STATION Use scent articles OF YOURS/DIRTY LAUNDRY (the dog’s bed, toys & dirty articles of the owner’s clothing or bed sheets). This helps keep your dog in the area. Place them near the crash site but well away from the road. *BONDED/MAGNET DOG* If you have a bonded second dog or special friend, take them to scene with you as well. **GRILL ~ FOOD ~ WATER** Take Grill & smelly food~ Chicken ~ Bacon ~Hot Dogs keep it cooking on the grill to help lure them in **HIGHLY RECOMMENDED** POST TO THESE SIGHTS • www.facebook.com/LostPetsofAutoAccidents/ • HELPINGLOSTPETS.COM • PAWBOOST.COM • LOSTMYDOGGIE.COM • FIDOFINDER.COM • PETAMBERALERT.COM • CRITTERALERT.COM • MYLOSTPETALERT.COM • FINDINGROVER.COM • Nextdoor • Craigslist • LOCAL AREA LOST SIGHTS • you can Google **REMEMBER** Dogs lost from car accidents or lost camping are very predictable in their actions & can successfully be recovered. **IF** ...the owner is in the hospital, unable to help in the recovery OR has in the accident and/or the vehicle has been destroyed in the accident (which limits the scent items). Use l what scent items you can of the owners or have their family bring you something of the owners. OVER NIGHT A DIRTY T SHIRT OR DOG TOY IF NECESSARY! Thank you for sharing. DO NOT CHASE! These tips in the video link below are extremely helpful. When dogs are lost, they go into panic/survival mode and many times don’t even recognize their owners. Please stay safe! When trying to catch a wandering dog, EVEN YOUR OWN….Be patient, watch this video to learn how to recover the dog using Calming Signals. Please keep yourself safe. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmiZzB643is&feature=share Drop Stop & Wait So what should you do when you encounter a lost dog or your own lost dog? * Sit down. * Turn your body so your back or side is to the dog. * Keep your eyes averted and bow your head so as to look non-threatening. * Toss tasty treats (hot dogs, chicken, smelly cheese, etc.) behind you or to the side of you. * Don’t talk. * Wait patiently for the dog to approach you. Don’t make any sudden movements, but continue to toss treats. * Don’t grab the dog when they get close, but wait patiently and build trust. * Speak softly, but if they back away, stop talking and just continue to toss treats until they trust you enough to come closer.
