Karina Newmark Roa but she did.... and they do. This was truly inevitable. Parrots get spooked easy. All it takes is a horn to honk, a hawk to fly overhead, a lawnmower to fire up, or a big gust of wind and you may never see your bird again. It's not worth the risk. Harness train, take outside in a carrier, or build an aviary. If you cant do at least one of these things, you have no business owning birds. This is a foreign environment that they are unequipped to survive in and they suffer terribly. Why would you take that risk? I've been rescuing birds for a decade, and 90% of escapees die of starvation, dehydration, birds of prey, or freeze to death.

Posted on Lost and Found birds of the US. https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1QCRbNCTvc/?mibextid=wwXIfr We are so sorry to hear your bird is missing. Here are some ideas to assist in your search. *Create a post on Pawboost, NextDoor & Ring, if you haven’t already. *During the daytime: use a wireless Bluetooth speaker to broadcast flock calls or your voice, shake treat bags or anything that might attract attention to food, put the cage out where it can be seen. *During the evening when searching is over, design & print off flyers with photo & contact information. These can be encased in a ziplock to keep weatherproof & posted in areas where allowed like parks, poles & any nearby gathering areas. Also drop off some at vet clinics, pet supply stores, anything within a 5 mile radius. Contact local shelters/rescues & even the police dept - they do pick up found/stray pets all the time. Make sure the world knows - neighbors esp ones that have bird feeders/baths/pools. Hand them out while searching the area. Join every local social media group there is. Run an ad in your local newspaper - some run one for free in lost & found (or cheap). Also check with local bird watcher groups - they’re always out & about. Flyers cannot be placed in mailboxes. *PLEASE CHECK WITH LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTERS & FILE A MISSING PET REPORT*

You have him outside without a harness. What did you think would happen?! Here’s clear, step-by-step advice to maximize recovery chances: • Search persistently on foot: Stay out as long as needed, covering your neighborhood thoroughly. Birds will go quiet at dark, but will stay put as their eyesight is terrible in the dark. You must take advantage of daylight hours. • Use sounds to locate: Play familiar calls or YouTube videos of sharp, distinctive flock calls loudly via Bluetooth speaker or phone. Listen for responses. if within earshot, your bird will very likely respond. This can often be a cheat code for finding lost birds as they are easier to locate by sound opposed to sight. • Watch for signs: Look for agitated crows, magpies, or other birds; this may indicate your parrot is nearby. • Spread the word: Notify neighbors door-to-door. Create and put up eye-catching posters everywhere (include photo, description, contact info). Post in local Facebook groups and community apps. Posters are crucial. Most escapes end up stuck up in a tree, unable to descend due to lack of flight experience. • If spotted: Never take your eyes off your bird. Stay patient and persistent; it will come down with time and coaxing (use food, toys, or calls). • Be diligent: A vast majority of domesticated escapees don’t survive without help. Starvation, freezing, or predators are common. Your efforts are their lifeline.
