ALWAYS require proof of ownership of pup. Thanks for taking care of found dog. You can post on Nextdoor and Paw Boost. Nextdoor will alert your neighborhood while Paw Boost covers a wider area and goes to vets. Fliers may be helpful in the area. Petsmart will scan for a microchip for free as will Animal Control, and many vets. Please notify Animal Control (as required by NC law) if you don't find a chip with the owner’s contact info. Owners will probably check AC first and may leave contact info. (you do not need to surrender dog). Make sure pups photo gets put up on Animal Control found dog website. Does the mailman in the area know the pup? Again, always require proof of ownership from anyone claiming dog.
