MESSAGE FROM OWNER

Brownie is an extremely shy, independent, feral cat who belonged to a good friend who passed away from terminal cancer. I took him in, but he wandered off on January 10th and has been missing for two weeks. My sister says he's probably happy being on his own because he was feral his whole life and prefers to be independent, but it breaks my heart to think he could be hungry and cold somewhere, or that he could get hurt. He is a rare, chocolate brown color that I've never seen on a cat before. I'd put a zebra striped "beastie band" collar on him, with a black heart nametag, but it may have come off. He was microchipped by 9 lives, and his left ear is has a small notch in it. If you have seen this shy kitty anywhere, it would be greatly appreciated if you could please contact me. He walks with his hind legs low to the ground, with a "slither" like a mongoose. I am guessing/hoping he may be hanging out in a colony somewhere in the area (I'm hoping he doesn't try to go back to his old home in Mountain View). He will probably run if approached, so if you see him, please call me asap at 650-735-1599. He may respond to the sound of an empty cat food can banging on concrete (that's how his previous owner used to call him to be fed... she got to the point where she could stretch out her arm and feed him with a s, but could never pick him up). I made a webpage forhim, that you can see at www.LostBrownCat.com. Any and all leads would be greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!!!

DESCRIPTION

VERY shy, all-brown / chocolate colored cat, short hair, had a zebra striped collar with a heart nametag. Walks with a "slither" - hind legs low to the ground. Will probably not go up to humans but has been fed regularly for years. Is from Mountain View and is not familiar with the area. Got scared by raccoons. His guardian passed away. He's probably (hopefully) hiding out in someone's back yard, possibly in the Palm Park area. Any and all tips and leads would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Cats who are missing rarely stray far from their home. Place their litter box and a piece of your unwashed clothing outside a door under a protected area; some cats will return to these scents. Sit in a chair outside (standing intimidates scared cats) outside your home at the same time in the early evening just after dark, have their carrier near by, take their favorite food in a bowl, sprinkle some dried catnip near the bowl and call their name, talking to them just like you do at home. Be sure to take the bowl indoors when you leave to deter raccoons. Do this for about an hour each night until their trust is earned. It will soon know where you'll be as they will be scared yet hungry. It may take several days yet this usually works. Contact your neighbors so they can let you know if they see your cat. Think like Brownie: He will be frightened, disoriented, hungry and missing his humans. The early evening vigil could take many nights but they do work.
