Message from Owner

My sweet kitty boy is missing. He did not come for breakfast Dec. 20 which is very not like him. I have been worried sick about him. He is a gray tabby short hair, about 5 years old. He is a chunky muscular boy weighing about 16 lbs. He is neutered. He was a stray who showed up at our hse a couple of years ago. Neighbors were familiar with him. He must have been raised lovingly from a kitten and then put out for some strange reason. He is very loving and sweet and will let anyone pet him. We call him Papa Kitty because we're pretty sure he fathered a litter of kittens that were born under our hse. All of the kittens are different shades of gray tabby, and one is very like him in many ways. He may come if called. He comes when I call him. He is an outside kitty because he is FIV positive and we have 3 indoor cats, all courtesy of the cat distribution network, and my son and daughter in law are afraid he will infect the other cats, otherwise I would keep him indoors. He has a nice heated hse where he stays during cold or rainy weather. He is vaccinated for rabies. No collar as I didn't want him to get choked on something. We have a friend who lost a cat that way and it was horrible. Not microchipped. So he wanders, usually in a small area near . We are in Rosewood on the west end of Charlie Braswell Rd. If you've seen him, please let me know!. I would be so grateful. He helped me through a hard time and I miss him terribly! Thank you!

Wait he’s FIV pos so you left him outside to infect other cats but not your own? It will spread if he bites another cat. More likely to happen outside with other strays than inside with other pets because they tend to fight outside over food and territory. Also you can put him on inside. Hope you find him.

AnnaMarie Sanderson I am very happy that things worked out for you with your boy. My boy is not hostile to people at all, but I think he feels competitive with other cats, I guess because he was on his own for so long. I would give almost anything if he wasn't sick and I could bring him in.

I understand. We don't have to agree but there is no hate! It is your cat and you are caring for him. That's what matters most! And yes a deep wound without proper cleaning can transmit the virus. That is why cats living harmoniously in the same home rarely pass it on to each other. I will pray Papa is found soon and returned home to you! Best of luck!

Beverly McNamara Cotter My FIV TomTom that I trapped and tamed using a cat playpen for quarantine until he got neutered then used to us and the other cats. Daily brushings with a long handled bath brush at first as he was a bit hostile. Slow introductions went well. When he no longer tried to swipe and bite he was released into gen pop and sleeps in my bed at night. The big 20 pound cat with white toes and a blaze. He loves the other cats.

Lisa Maccaro Lisa Maccaro Thank you so much. He was not especially young when he was diagnosed. He was about 3 years old at that time. He was injured in a fight and we took him to the emergency vet in Wilson. There I was told that he needed to be in a home without other cats. I will check out more recent findings, but knowing what I know about diseases, he had to have caught the FIV from another cat so it must be transmissible. It is only logical that he could infect another cat somehow. Please understand, this is not me doing me. This is me doing the best I can for a cat that I love that had a hard life before I started feeding him. I have always had indoor cats in the past. I have never liked cats being outside. I have felt like I had no other choice if I wanted his life to be better. He has been so loving and sweet that I don't understand how anyone could have put him out to begin with. Neighbors told me about some guy that had him and put him outside. Then apparently, he moved and just left Papa and no one else saw fit to take him in. We are pretty new to the area and had already taken in the kittens that we think are Papa's when he showed up and approached us. I just couldn't turn my back on him. I didn't take him to the animal shelter because I was afraid they would anesthetize him and I couldn't bear that thought. He had already taken my heart by then. I'm sorry you don't agree with my choices but please try to understand. I would bring him in if I thought it was possible in any way.

I'm so sorry. I understand. But the research has come such a long way! Slow intros and time. I have seen cats live in the same house for 12-14 years and no one ever passed the virus. I have also seen many false positive tests taken when cats were young. But you do you! Hope he is found before he is hurt. Lay out some of your unwashed clothes so he can sniff his way home!
