Message from Owner

My cat Orion was neutered on Thursday along with my kitten Lorelei. I live on the 2nd floor and it’s was hot when we got home. I opened the top porch. My son opened the crate holding Orion. He came out acting crazy jumped through the door and off the top porch (something he has never done). The vet said not to let them jump. It happened so fast. My son cried for hours. Orion still has on the cone when he decided to jump. He hasn’t been seen since. He hasn’t had any pain . He is chipped. We miss him very much and are unsure if he is hurt due to jumping. I sat out food and the first batch was eaten. The 2nd batch was attacked by brown ants. If anyone sees him please let me know. This is our baby. He is 3 years old.

Have you found your cat yet? Go to neighbors homes and plead with them to help you. You must and should be scared for him. Call police-maybe they know of or seen something. They patrol too. They can let animal control know. Call them too. Can't sleep on this one. Very sad.

Most lost cats come home/ are found between midnight-5 am so that’s a good time to look. Door to door with flyers in the area and flyers with nearby vets and shelters really helps. If sighted, It’s better not to chase, lost cats are even more skittish and spooked outside and will even run from their owners. If possible, it’s better to sit at ground level and talk in a normal voice, which will bring them closer to you. Even better, bring some food, smellier the better - tuna, shrimp, rotisserie chicken. If you can safely leave a door or window cracked open specially at night, the cat might walk back in. They can get locked by mistake in sheds garages and basements, ask neighbors to check and if they can leave doors open for a while. A frightened cat in hiding probably won’t come out when people are around.

He was acting crazy because of the anesthesia...it should have worn off.

Shared. Assuming he is strictly an indoor cat: He is likely hiding somewhere very nearby, on your own property or very near. It is rare for an indoor cat to go further than a house or two away. He is terrified and will not come out or respond to your calls. If he comes out at all it will only be at night. Look for him after dark with a flashlight. Look in every tiny space he could possibly squeeze himself into. The flashlight will let you see the glow of his eyes. Put out his litter, some worn clothing with your scent (pillowcases work great, worn socks) and some stinky food (tuna, sardines, KFC). Leave scent trails to your door with something like tuna juice or chicken broth. Indoor cats get lost very easily. In their fear they become disoriented and can’t find their way back to your door even though they are right on your property. But they have a VERY strong sense of smell. Do these things and they will help your baby find his way back to your door. If it’s feasible, leave the door ajar for him. Your indoor cat doesn’t know your house from the outside, but he knows it from the inside. Every house has a smell, and yours smells like “home”. If you leave the door ajar, he will smell it and run right in. Another thing you can do is sleep outside. A few people have done that recently with great success. Best of luck!
