Message from Owner

Nori was last seen Thursday evening playing hide and seek in our flowers. She is very sweet but can be a bit devilish. She doesn’t like loud noises and usually runs away from strangers.

If you have a shed or garage or enclosed porch, prop open the door overnight and put unwashed laundry inside. He may go in overnight. Don't put food in there because it may attract other critters. Leave a window or door open to your home after dark. He may come in. Please borrow a trap from your local shelter and set it up ASAP. Sending prayers.🙏

Melinda Smith Hnatio Just a teen. Not a true adult until 1 year. The photo shown looks like a much younger kitten however.

Melinda Smith Hnatio well I hope she's spayed then! She will no doubt turn up pregnant if she isn't and she comes home.

🐾 LOST CAT RECOVERY: IMMEDIATE ACTION PLAN FROM TAILED TREASURES OF MD ❤️‍🩹 📢 HELP US SPREAD THE WORD: Please share these tips whenever you see a missing cat post to help owners act fast! We know how terrifying it is when your cat goes missing, but please try to take a deep breath. Cats behave very differently than dogs when lost—they are masters of hiding and usually stay very close by, often just a few houses away. Following this structured plan is the best way to bring them home. 🧘‍♀️💕 1️⃣ IMMEDIATE SITE STRATEGY (THINK LIKE A CAT) 🐈‍⬛ • Tear Your House Apart First: If you didn’t see the escape, thoroughly search inside. Check sofas, chairs, drawers, closets, bats, attics, and any tight spaces. 🏠 • Don’t Panic & Don’t Yell: Never yell, chase, or make loud noises. This can scare them deeper into hiding. Speak in a calm, normal "dinner time" voice. 🤫 • The Radius: Most indoor cats stay within a 3–5 house radius. They are likely hunkered down in a dark, tight spot nearby. 📍 • Search Between 8 PM – 6 AM: Cats are most active and feel safest during these quiet hours. Use a high-powered flashlight to look for "eye shine" in bushes, sewer drains, under decks, sheds, garages, and cars. ✨🔦 • Stay Calm: Sit low, speak calmly, and maintain a non-threatening presence. Try gently shaking a treat bag to increase the chance your cat will approach you. 🦴 2️⃣ SECURE YOUR HOME & PROPERTY 🏠 • Leave a Way In: Leave the escape route (door/window) ajar only if you have no other pets that can escape. You can also leave the garage door open slightly with food leading inside. 🚪 • Scent is Key: 👃 Place your dirtiest laundry (socks, sheets) outside. Sprinkle catnip around the entry points to create a familiar and enticing environment. 👕🌿 • The Litter Box Warning: Generally, we do NOT recommend putting out litter boxes as they can attract predators or aggressive neighborhood cats. If you do put out the litter box, you MUST monitor it with cameras so you know if predators or other cats are keeping your cat away. 📹🐈 • Chum the Yard: Use the smelliest food possible—sardines, tuna, mackerel, or warm rotisserie chicken. 🐟 You can mix these with chicken broth and warm water in a jug to create “chum” and spread it around your yard or driveway to create a scent trail home. 🍖 3️⃣ REPORT & SPREAD THE WORD 🪧 • Flyers are #1: Get flyers up ASAP. Post on poles, in businesses, and hand them directly to neighbors. Ask neighbors if YOU can search their yard—they may not look as thoroughly as you will. 🛑📬 • Report to Local County AND City Shelters: Notify your local shelter and check 24PetConnect. Check in person daily—phone descriptions and shelter photos are not always reliable. 🏥 • Montgomery County: 📞 240-773-5900 (Derwood) • Rockville City Animal Control: 📞 240-314-8930 • Gaithersburg City Animal Control: 📞 301-258-6400 • District of Columbia (BVSPCA): 📞 202-888-PETS (7387) • Howard County: 📞 410-313-2780 | Carroll County: 📞 410-848-4810 • Frederick County: 📞 301-600-1546 | Prince George's County: 📞 301-780-7200 • Microchip: Call the company right away to report them missing and confirm your contact info is up to date. 📡 4️⃣ DIGITAL ALERTS & MONITORING 📱 • Online & Community Alerts: • File a free alert with PawBoost: pawboost.com 🐾 • Share on Nextdoor, Ring Neighbors app, and local community listservs. • Post in local community Facebook groups and "Lost & Found" pages. 👥 • Set up WiFi Cameras: Use Blink, Wyze, or Ring over feeding stations. Many cats return only when they think no one is watching. 🎥🌙 5️⃣ CRITICAL WARNINGS & SEARCH TIPS ⚠️ • Point of Loss: If your cat went missing away from home, stay nearby at that exact spot with food and your dirty laundry. 📍 • Beware of Scammers: Block anyone asking for money or codes. Beware of AI-generated photos. Never pay unless they send a clear, verified picture of your pet. 🤖❌ • Humane Traps: For a cat in "survival mode," a humane trap is often the only way to recover them. Cover the trap with blankets or clothes from home to make it less scary. 🛰️ If you do set a trap you must have camera in it 24/7 to monitor any activity. WiFi cameras or trail cameras like Moultrie. • Don't Give Up: It can take weeks or even months for a scared cat to become hungry enough to approach a trap or stranger. Diligence is key! ⏱️ 🔗 WATCH FOR MORE TIPS: • How to Find a Lost Cat (Front Street Animal Shelter) 🎥 https://youtu.be/g2eCoC63B9I?feature=shared • Save A Cat - Lost Cat Recovery Guide 🐈‍⬛ http://www.saveacat.org/lost-cat.html 🐕‍🦺 ABOUT TAILED TREASURES OF MD 💎 We specialize in lost pet recovery tips, including the use of cellular trail cameras and humane high-tech trapping systems. 🛰️ We provide expert guidance and support to bring the "un-catchable" pets home. 🏠🐾 If we do not cover your area, we can try and find a team to assist you. 🙏 SUPPORT OUR MISSION 💖 We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit working 24/7, 365 days a year. 🤝 💻 Website: tailedtreasuresofmd.com | 🔵 Facebook: Tailed Treasures of MD 💰 Venmo: @TailedTreasuresofMD | 📱 Zelle: 301-651-7785 #LostCat #TailedTreasuresOfMD #PetRecovery #MarylandPets #IndoorCat #PetSafety #NonProfit #BewareOfScams #MontgomeryCounty #DMVPets #BVSPCA #RingNeighbors #Wyze #Blink

OWNER, leave a message (24/7) or lost report with shelter personnel at 301-600-1546. Describe your pet as best you can, let them know how to contact you, and email a picture of your pet to animalcontrol@frederickcountymd.gov. I’m attaching a list of things to help. Please read it and save it on your phone to go back to. I can make you a flyer if you need one. Send me a message so I don’t miss your comment. 🔺If anyone says they found your pet but need you to send them a code Google sent to your phone, block them, even if they say they're with Animal Control. If you see any comments telling you to text a random phone number or contact an account here or on another social media platform, those are also scammers. Never send anyone money!🔺
