Please check the neighbor's bats and garages, kitty might have gotten locked. Check both sides of the block. If you can't go in, call the cat's name. Check places that your cat might hide if injured. Call shelters, keep calling - go in in person. If you have shops, libraries, and gas stations nearby... put up flyers, and check-in with people at the counter. Put flyers up around the neighborhood, and talk with your neighbors. Good luck!

General Information: Hang clothes with your scent on it (Worn clothing from owner) high up outside so the familiar scent can travel and guide the cat back home. Ask your neighbors to check their yard/could be accidently stuck in their garage or shed. (If applicable) Check doorbell or home camera - or ask neighbors to check their camera. Post Fliers with a picture of the cat and your contact information in the area the cat went missing. Not everyone is on Social Media and posters have worked in that if spotted a location can be provided. If a cat is scared they make themselves safe by finding a good hiding spot and often times hide in silence. Look in bushes - bring a flashlight and look for shining eyes. Best time to find your cat is in the early morning hours when the noise level is low and they feel safe. Leave an access point open for the cat to return. This is important if they do come back in the middle of the night. Prayers your cat returns/ or is found safely. Beware of scammers.

TIPS TO HELP FIND LOST PET: โœ…Place his/her bedding, your shoes, a piece of your unwashed clothing (such as a sweatshirt, blanket, pillowcases) and food/water outside *if there is coyotes in the area bring the food in at night*. ๐ŸšซDo not put litter box outside. Putting the litter box outside can attract predators and other cats which might keep your cat from returning home๐Ÿšซ *Putting out the other items listed above, are scents only your cat will recognize* โ€ผ๏ธ They might be nearby and canโ€™t figure out how to get inside ***IF you have a garage or door/sliding door that can be left open*** Leave the garage/ or door cracked for them and place the shoes, bedding, and unwashed clothing in the garageโ€ผ๏ธ โ€ผ๏ธSetting a trap on your porch, in garage or backyard is also a good idea. Many cats go into survival mode when out of their element and scared and may not come to you on their own. Most skittish cats will hunker down and stay nearby so a trap is very helpful as well. โœ…Walk around the area calling them calmly early morning and late evening when itโ€™s quiet & shake a bag of treats(if they like treats), or can of tuna etc. โœ…If he/she is microchipped contact the microchip company to report him/her lost and make sure your contact info is up to date. โœ…Hang flyers (use a bright colored board or paper) with picture in your neighborhood, surrounding areas, local shopping centers, businesses, vet's offices, groomers, etc. within a five mile radius from your home. โœ…Go door to door with the flyers as well and try to speak with people when handing out flyers. โœ…Make a sign with his/her picture and put it in your front yard stating he/she is missing. โœ…File a lost report with the shelters in your area and surrounding area shelters โœ…If checking shelters in person, ask to see the animals in isolation too. โœ…Check shelter websites daily (as it is updated hourly) โœ…Check shelter found reports for found postings but not at the shelter. โœ…Take a flyer to the shelters. โœ…File online with petharbor, pawboost โœ…Post on area lost and found pet and community Facebook pages, area shelter Facebook pages, Nextdoor, newspapers and Craigslist under "pets" and "Lost and Foundโ€

Cats usally stay within 200 feet of the scent of thier home. Your cat maybe close by. (But if the cat is not spayed or neutered they can roam farther while in heat looking for a mate).or if someone has picked them up. Put out a pile of unwashed clothes on your porch. Cats can smell up to 2 miles. Do NOT put the catโ€™s litter box out on the porch as that attracts other cats and can scare your cat away. Put a safe trap there too. Line it with a towel or shirt with the scent from inside the house. If you donโ€™t have a trap, borrow one. Local spca can lend them out. If you trap a cat that is not yours, just release it. Or check and make sure it is not someone else's lost pet. Notify all vets, shelters and spca and give them a picture. Make flyers with your contact info and picture and give to EVERY house within 1/4 mile. Ask neighbors to check their sheds, garages, etc. in case the cat accidentally got locked inside. Go outside and hunt under EVERYTHING, both during the day and at dusk with a flashlight softly calling your cats name and shaking a bag of treats. Look everywhere - under bushes, cars, porches, shedsโ€ฆ..this means neighbor's stuff too. Sometimes if you sit on your porch or outside in the yard and quietly talk to your cat, as if he or she were there, they will come out of hiding and come up to you. If they do, stay calm and donโ€™t try to grab the cat. Wait until they get close and let the cat come to you. When the cat lets you pet them then you can attempt to pick it up.
