Found tips Hi😊 Cute pup-know that you may get requests for people wanting to add it to their family to keep, before you’ve had a chance to find the frantic owner. Please say no. Apologies for duplications of any good tips already posted for you. You may already know how to do this, but here’s a list of tips that I share, which can also help others, who may not know of these things. And no negativity intended with this list of tips. Don’t give out too much info/keep some to help claimants prove is theirs. Plus-we are all aware of how much the internet helps to make photos that look similar. So many people like to say that since the loose dog trusts a person to help them that it “picked you”. Not usually the case. And the person commenting would be rightfully upset if someone ever kept their dog with this reasoning had it gotten loose. Sometimes they really are without a home and they do need you, but please do all proper and legal steps first. Nextdoor (.com ) A great Please note that lately regular people are CLAIMING to be a rescue so they can just go and pick up a dog, and then the owners never get their dog back. Please ask for the name and make sure to get solid verification. Look for reviews. Best to just show a photo of the face. No collars or other identifying items. This helps keep pets safe because a true owner will know. And with AI, too many photos gives thieves a way to manipulate the photos to appear elsewhere. Vet offices and many pet stores can scan for a chip at no charge. If you have your phone number listed anywhere for this, be very careful of people running scams. DO NOT give anyone a code that they ask for (sent to your phone) when they say they want to verify it’s you before they give you info about a pet that is supposedly theirs. This is how they reset your information (the old reset your password code). ***CALL IN AS FOUND to your local animal shelter. People who lose their pets will call and visit the local shelters. It’s often the first place they will look. Nextdoor (.com ) A great neighborhood page. If you aren’t a member, and can’t join quickly, see if a neighbor will post for you. Sometimes a dog gets the wrong end of a domestic dispute-people leave them off somewhere to hurt the one who loves the pet. Local Facebook lost/found pages. ***Please note that people try to claim so they can sell. Or worse. Most found pets are simply lost and not homeless. Please make vigorous efforts to reunite found pets with their rightful owners. Most states have laws with regard to how long to help, prior to adopting out. Fosters-Often times people will reply with “my dog needs a friend”, etc., so please be aware of those type of offers to foster. If someone will truly be a foster, please be certain that you know their name, phone and contact info-and address of where the pup will be held. Sometimes they disappear. Know that dogs can act skittish or nervous, as well as dirty-that can happen quickly to animals when lost and frightened. Also—-Please post an update on the top of your original post when you have good news to share. Keeps us from sharing inaccurate information. 😊Three dots on top right of your post-gives you edit options. Thank you! 😊 Courtesy of Salvaged Strays
