Message from Owner

Hi everyone- our cat Oliver who is an indoor/ outdoor cat got out Sunday night, 11/30. His collar had an AirTag and we found it on the utility path behind the hses on Camino Playa Norte. I know Oliver has been back there during the day before bc there is a woman who has seen him in her yard just looking at her cats. We've asked our neighbors if they heard an attack or coyotes on Sunday night and they said no. They heard an attack the night before but Oliver was then. If you have seen him, or heard something, or live in one of those hses by where his collar was found, please contact me if you're will to have my husband and I search for him in your yard incase he's scared and hurt. We've found no signs of blood or fur, other than a little blood on his air tag but that could be from anything. He always comes and is never out at night so we are very concerned. We understand the risk of letting him out and also this is unusual behavior. Just looking for answers no matter good or bad, we are devastated at the thought of never seeing him again. Thank you in advance

Alex Jimenez-Franke Alex, that’s really good to know your kitty has been spotted by your neighbors. You can set a humane cat trap near the area he was spotted. Bait your trap with strong, fishy odor food like tuna at dusk, when cats come out of hiding to look for food and water. I bought my TNR cat trap at Harbor freight for $25 about 10 years ago and it still works. They stock them at stores. Good luck, don’t give up 🙏🏼 I got a foster that ran from me, got him back after two weeks, by hanging flyers. He was emaciated but alive!

Oliver was last seen on 12/1 & 12/2 under a car in the Montenosa Apartments in Tierrasanta about .3 miles away from home (literally across Antigua). He was spotted again later that night around Via Valarta, headed toward the Belsera condominiums. If you have any information please contact me. Flyers are up at all major intersections, wishing the condos and apartments, and flyers in mailboxes in surrounding neighborhoods. We are walking 4 miles every day and night searching and won’t stop. Please help us bring our boy home🙏🏼❤️

Finding an AirTag is not a good sign, he did not take his collar off on his own. General Advice: 🐾 Sad seeing so many kitties go missing just this week. Poor baby, he must be so scared and hungry out on his own. When a cat goes missing, they can’t easily find their way home using only their scent. You must be proactive and look for them. 🔦 Look under cars, bushes & hedges, look for glowing eyes w/flashlight, call his name at dusk when it’s quiet and they come out from hiding to eat. Posting is important, but please be proactive and search for him, too. They don’t go far, 3-4 houses away, they stay in one place until they are scared off by dogs, coyotes, or loud equipment. The challenge is finding him before he runs further way. 📣Please hang flyers near the area where he went missing, it’ll let your neighbors know you’re looking for him and get the immediate attention from pedestrians and drivers. You’re the one that can bring him home safely, he’ll recognize your voice, footsteps and your scent. Post on ND, check SDHS Lost & Found daily. If you’re able to find him, PLEASE, please don’t let him out unattended. Cats have the intelligence of a 3yo, they don’t know the dangers, they face outdoors with coyotes, dogs, cars, and worst of all evil people who don’t like them in their yard. It only takes an hour to train a cat on a leash, then he can be outdoors safely with you. 🐈‍⬛ AirTags give people a false sense of security, they do not protect your cat from coyotes or dogs. Good luck finding this little guy 🐾💙🐾

Most indoor cats will stay very close to home, but they will go into hiding because they go into survival mode, especially during the day. If it’s at all possible for you to put some recently worn clothing, bedding, a cat tree, if your cat has one near a open door window or garage where the cat will have access to return home, they usually will do it between midnight and 3 AM in the morning. Do not put a litter box out because that will attract other predators such as coyotes, raccoons, skunks, etc. At night time, you can also take a flashlight looking under cars in trees and bushes Taking with you a bag of treats if your cat is treat motivated, calling its name softly staying low to the ground, shaking the bag and using the flashlight to possibly light up your cats eyes. Sometimes they can stay in hiding for days so don’t give up. Hope these tips help and that you’re beautiful. Cat returns home safely and soon🙏🐈‍⬛❤️ don’t give up sometimes they can stay in hiding for over a week until they get really hungry, especially when a lot of commotion is going on during the daytime
