Message from Owner

Walter is a rescue from NMDR. He’s been w us since January and has taken quite sometime to adjust to a loving home. He enjoys being outside but runs from people. He is a very fast little dog and escaped through our front door while my son was leaving for work. We live off of Jackson and Cascade. The more my son chased him, the further her ran. He left home 330p on 6/8 and was spotted in a ring camera later that evening still in our neighborhood. However as of 6/10 530a the next sighting was south of downtown. I’m incredibly worried about exposure to the heat and now 3 days without food at water. Please check your cameras if you have the ability and let me know if you see him anywhere!! Thank you so much. LOST Dogs at the Pound Please don’t rely on the website — HSPPR has a long, documented history of dogs being in the building but never appearing online. This is how people lose their pets there. Here’s what actually happens: • Dogs on stray hold often never get photographed or uploaded They sit in the back for days and never appear online. • Dogs who are scared, stressed, or shut down are moved to the back and hidden HSPPR labels them “behavioral,” and those dogs are never posted online. • Dogs who fail the behavior test are kept out of public view This includes dogs who are simply frightened, confused, or overwhelmed. They are not listed. Families have lost dogs this way. • Mislabeling is extremely common Wrong breed, wrong , wrong color — and if your dog is mislabeled, you will never find them by searching the website. • Injured or sick dogs are kept in medical and not listed You won’t see them online, and staff won’t tell you over the phone. This is why you MUST go in person. Walk the stray hold kennels. Ask to see the dogs in the back. Ask about medical and quarantine. Ask about dogs who failed behavior. The website is not complete, and it never has been. Going in person is the only way to make sure your dog isn’t sitting there unlisted.

At the top of my page is a pinned post with tips on how to find or return a lost pet. This post includes helpful links to local Lost & Found pages and places to report missing or found pets. Once you post your LOST alert, take a moment to look through the FOUND posts — your pet may already be listed. Keep checking back regularly for updates. Here’s the link to the tips: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=3550007315054776&set=pb.100001366267424.-2207520000..&type=3 Make sure your son watches this too: There's a video link on how to catch a loose and normally scared dog (e.g. calling their name – even by the owner - can send them running the other way if in survival mode, don't chase, etc.). https://youtu.be/cmiZzB643is There’s lots of information about creating a scent trails by WALKING and other ways like putting out your dirty laundry, all so the dog can smell his way home. Dogs can smell up to 11 miles away. In the comments is a diagram of a wagon wheel showing how to lay out a scent trail leading back to your home ……………do this ASAP…………….. 🏃💨 A dog gets lost away from home or that bolts from a car should have scent left at both the escape point and the home. Lost dogs move in loops, not straight lines, and they often return to the last place they smelled their owner and the long‑term scent anchor at home. Leaving unwashed clothing, the dog’s bedding, and water (no food) at both spots gives the dog two safe scent stations to return to instead of wandering farther. Petco Love Lost is a national lost pet system that scans photos from shelters, rescues, and found pet posts all across the USA. It’s the only database that consistently matches pets using facial recognition AI, so even if your dogs were taken out of state, they can still show up in the system. It’s free, fast, and absolutely worth adding your dogs’ photos — many families have been reunited this way. 🔗 Petco Love Lost: https://petcolove.org/lost/

🐾 If you haven't already (these are some suggestions, as you may have already done some of these and some suggestions may not pertain to your situation). If chipped....Immediately alert the chip company and make sure your info is UTD. File a lost report with local shelters. Go there in person on a regular basis. Post on Next Door and PawBoost. Ignore the pay prompts for PawBoost. Download Ring app and ask neighbors to check their footage. Let the postman know, as they know most of the people on their routes. You don’t have to have a Ring doorbell. Put clothes, towels, bedding that smells like you on your porch. Post on as many Lost and Found sites on FB as possible. Do not duplicate posts on the pages as this loses the thread. Dogs usually head north, for some reason, so look in that direction. But obviously check everywhere. Put up clear, simple and brightly colored signs all around the area. Put a sign in your yard with a picture and your phone number. Walk the neighborhood and put flyers on everyone's door. Immediately put out your dog's bed, and some of YOUR dirty clothes (dirty socks are nice and stinky)/blankets (dry in dryer first to enhance smell). Contact all local animal shelters, vets and groomers in your area. Check Craigslist in your area. Some people still put there. Look under found pets or pets for sale. If you live at an Apt complex ask the office mgr to send an email to all tenants, it could be someone that lives there picked him up. Walk don't drive around looking for your baby. The car may muffle your voice 🐾

Some of this info might help. Go to shelters in person. Our neighbors witnessed my pet being picked up by them here. Five days, they told us he wasn't there. We found him in their clinic. Check there, too. They might try to say no. Be insistant. If your pet is missing, you should also check re-homing and for sale pages, including Marketplace and local newspapers, rescues, and Craigs-list. Many times, people get the gender of the pet wrong. Please always check in person. If chipped, then contact your chip company. Make sure the information is current and report the pet missing. If you decide to use Paw boost, check your emails daily, especially if your pet is lost for a long time. And please add a phone number. Pets have been found and not able to return home because all that is found of old posts is Paw boost with no information and emails are being ignored. 😥 Please click the three dots upper right and edit to add the closest cross streets, city, state, and date of disappearance if that information isn't already there. It can be shared with truckers, traveling through there. You should include the original missing date and city and state on top of your post. The breed is also helpful. Searches on Google and FB go by posts, not groups. It makes it simpler for those of us who search. The city and state especially are very important for those of us who do Google and FB searches for pets. Check leads in person. Sometimes, the lighting will make the pet seem darker or lighter than it is. If the owner walks around too far, then their scent can confuse the pet. It's best for the owner to stay close to one area and have others walk a larger area. Favorite squeaky toy might help, but use it sparingly. It might also attract other dogs, so be careful. 💝🌹👍 A simple cardboard box placed where you saw your cat might attract it home if it's closeby. Please do not leave food and a cat box outside if your cat is missing. It can attract other cats and predators that block your pet from coming home. If you do put food out, make certain you are close by and bring it in at night. Cat boxes have been known to attract every stray in the area, including dogs. The owner should look for their pets at local Shelters and Humane Society if you haven't already. Please call them to let them know you have the pet. Also, pet shops, groomers, and vets might recognize them. So might the mail carrier. You should contact them as well. Fliers could help and so could knocking on doors. A vet will scan for chip for free. If you see your pet, don't chase her/him. Sit down quietly, don't look at him/her, just watch them with corner of your eyes. Make sure to bring a box/bag of treats and a can of wet food. Sit down on the ground. Open the wet food when he/she's within hearing distance and lay it down in front of you on the ground. Favorite toy. Bring it. Make sure he sees it, but if it squeaks, don't squeak it often. Once or twice, then lay it down in front of you. Just to grab attention so they see you. If they come running, don't be too quick to grab them. They'll bolt. Smelly food like a rotisserie chicken might work better, and YouTube has videos of the sound of a food can opening. You can use that instead. Don't make any suddenly moves. It might scare him. Good luck!!!! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🍀🍀🍀🍀 Not everyone has internet, and some ppl are not on Facebook. Join other sites like next-door, Ring, etc... if they are on FB, they may check other lost and found groups. Check Craigs-list. The Ring app is really good, too! 👍 A quick way to check groups is to click on the pictures link on the homepage. It can save time. 😁👍 One of the most important things you can do is file missing reports with police, Humane Society, Shelters, and your chip company. Without a police report, your pet could end up legally adopted out to someone else. Do that immediately. Do not answer messages offering a code. Especially don't go to i n s t a or other sites, and research area codes of people who want you to call them. These are generally scams. Good luck!!!! 🍀🍀🍀🍀

General Information: Set up a scent station. Get a scent that the dog is familiar with out in front of the house (EX Worn clothing / shoes from a family member/owner that the dog lives with.) Hang it out high so that the smell can travel and guide the dog back home. Keep an access point open in case the dog returns. Please post signs with the dogs' picture and your contact information on the sign. Post these signs all over as if someone spots your dog the person can contact you and provide a location of where the dog is. (Not everyone is on Social Media). Ask your neighbors to check their doorbell or house cameras (if applicable), sheds and garage. Owners: Do not try and search for the dog - as your scent travels when you are out and walking all over can confuse the dog. The dog should only smell your scent near your home. Never underestimate the ability of a dog to find their way home using their nose. Call or go to the Animal Shelter in your area and tell them that your dog is missing to see if it has been picked up. Prayers your dog is found safely. Beware of scammers.
